Bob Sumerel Tire Company, one of the largest commercial tire distributors and service providers in the United States is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Off-the-Road (OTR) Tire Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining large industrial, construction, agricultural, and mining tires. The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, remove, repair, and replace OTR tires on heavy equipment, including loaders, graders, haul trucks, and other off-road machinery.
- Perform tire inspections to identify wear patterns, damage, and potential safety issues.
- Conduct tire repairs such as section repairs, tube replacements, vulcanizing, and tread maintenance.
- Operate tire service equipment including hydraulic jacks, tire handlers, inflation cages, bead breakers, and torque tools.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services performed, tire conditions, and inventory used.
- Respond to field service calls and perform mobile repairs at customer job sites as needed.
- Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and equipment operating standards.
- Assist with inventory management, shop upkeep, and other tasks assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a tire technician; OTR or heavy-equipment tire experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with heavy machinery.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 250 lbs with or without mechanical assistance.
- Valid driver’s license
- CDL A or B required
- Availability to night shifts and non-standard hours.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with OTR tire repair techniques and specialized equipment.
- OSHA, MSHA, or other safety certifications.
- Experience in mining, construction, quarry, or agricultural environments.
