What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Access Control Technician and Specialist GA position at Bob Jones University?
Position Summary: Assist in minimizing down time for access control systems serving students, faculty, and staff; ensure that systems meets specification; correct the root cause of problems; protect the security of the campus access control systems; assist in the execution of installation, moves, adds, changes, and overall maintenance to campus wired and wireless access systems. (wired includes fiber & copper)
This position is a 30-hour Staff GA role available in January 2026.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Assist in maintaining all aspects of campus access control
- Install new cabling and access control devices
- Upgrade existing cabling and control systems
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues
- Maintain cable routing and equipment records
- Preserve organizational knowledge
- Maintain technical proficiency
- Maintain the door access system
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Consistent availability for scheduled work
- Willingness to perform occasional menial tasks
- Ability to read, interpret, and document plans and schematics
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Aptitude for learning new technologies
- Commitment to seeing projects through to completion
- Ability to function effectively despite frequent interruptions
- Strong analytical skills
- Valid driver’s license (preferred)
- Willingness to work in dirty, hot, or noisy environments such as mechanical rooms, rooftops, and tunnels while servicing equipment
- Patience and willingness to learn and follow supervisor instructions
- Ability to distinguish colors
