POSITION SUMMARY: The Art Adjunct Instructor provides high-quality, Christ-centered instruction in assigned undergraduate studio and design courses. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellence in traditional and contemporary art practices, a strong command of color and design theory, and the ability to cultivate a creative, orderly, and spiritually nurturing learning environment.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach assigned undergraduate art and/or design courses with clarity, rigor, and a commitment to student formation.
- Deliver instruction that reflects strong competency in relevant art media, design principles, and creative processes.
- Maintain current, approved course syllabi and post all required materials on the University intranet.
- Provide timely feedback and fair assessment of student work, maintaining high standards of craft and conceptual development.
- Maintaining appropriate and timely communication within and among students and colleagues in the assigned division/department.
- Providing academic, ministry, career and spiritual counsel to students as appropriate;
- Keeping accurate records of student attendance and performance including keeping grades up to date on the LMS, Canvas.
- Engaging in collegial behavior with members of the BJU community
- Participating in annual teaching assessment activities as required by the chair or dean
- Demonstrate ongoing professional growth in one’s discipline
- Demonstrating an understanding of BJU’s mission and creed;
OPTIONAL:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Artistic & Technical Proficiency: Strong competency in studio and/or design media with a solid grasp of color theory, composition, visual communication, and contemporary creative practices.
- Effective Teaching & Classroom Management: Demonstrated ability to structure instruction clearly, guide critique, maintain a positive learning environment, and support student growth through timely, constructive feedback.
- Biblical Worldview Integration & Christian Character: Ability to thoughtfully connect biblical principles to course content while modeling Christ-like character, professionalism, and a redemptive approach to the creative process.
- Communication & Professionalism: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational habits, and a commitment to ongoing professional development and collegial collaboration.
