High-Needs Support Paraprofessional (Afterschool Program)

Location: Charleston, WV | Part-Time (Mon–Fri, 1:00–5:30 PM, approx. 23 hrs/week)

The Bob Burdette Center is seeking a compassionate and dependable High-Needs Support Paraprofessional to assist children who require additional behavioral or emotional support in our afterschool program. The ideal candidate will help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where all students can thrive.

You’ll work alongside the Site Coordinator to provide individualized and small-group support, implement behavior strategies, and promote positive participation in daily activities.

Qualifications: Experience working with children, especially those with behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges, is strongly preferred. Coursework or a degree in child development, psychology, or education is a plus.

About Us:The Bob Burdette Center provides a safe, structured, and nurturing afterschool environment that supports academic achievement and social-emotional growth for children in Charleston, WV. We are seeking a dedicated High-Needs Support Paraprofessional to join our team and assist students who require additional behavioral and emotional support during program hours.

Position Summary:The High-Needs Support Paraprofessional will work closely with the Afterschool Program Site Coordinator to provide individualized and small-group support to students with high needs. This role focuses on creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where all children can succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group behavioral and emotional support to high-needs students.
  • Assist in implementing strategies that promote positive behavior and emotional regulation.
  • Help maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Support students during enrichment activities, transitions, and daily routines.
  • Follow behavior plans and direction provided by the Site Coordinator and Program Director.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent and effective support strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional conduct at all times.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in child development, psychology, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children who have behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of positive behavior support and de-escalation techniques.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with staff and supervisors.
  • Must pass background checks as required by state and program regulations.

Hourly pay between $12 - $20, depending on experience.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 23 per week

Work Location: In person
