Host/Hostess

Position Summary

The Host/Hostess is responsible for creating exceptional first and last impressions for every guest visiting Boathouse Grille. This position serves as the face of the restaurant by welcoming guests, managing seating arrangements, coordinating reservations, and supporting smooth restaurant operations. The ideal candidate is friendly, organized, professional, and thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Guest Experience & Hospitality

• Greet every guest with a warm, friendly, and professional attitude.
• Create a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the Boathouse Grille guest experience.
• Manage guest flow and wait times while maintaining positive guest interactions.
• Escort guests to their tables and provide menus when appropriate.
• Thank guests for visiting and invite them to return.
• Address guest concerns professionally and communicate issues to management when necessary.

Seating & Reservation Management

• Manage the restaurant seating chart efficiently to maximize guest satisfaction and restaurant operations.
• Coordinate reservations, walk-in guests, and waitlists.
• Communicate accurate wait times and keep guests informed throughout their visit.
• Work closely with managers, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service flow.
• Monitor table availability and assist with seating adjustments during busy periods.
• Assist with private events, banquets, and special functions as needed.

Restaurant Operations

• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming host stand area.
• Answer phone calls professionally and assist guests with reservations and general inquiries.
• Provide information regarding menus, specials, restaurant policies, and event offerings.
• Assist with maintaining cleanliness in entryways, waiting areas, and dining room spaces.
• Support restaurant staff with various guest service needs during peak periods.
• Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.

Teamwork & Communication

• Communicate effectively with managers, servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff.
• Support fellow team members to ensure a seamless guest experience.
• Remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented during busy service periods.
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused work environment.
• Represent Boathouse Grille with professionalism at all times.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment for guests and team members.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety issues, or guest incidents promptly.
• Comply with all health department and workplace safety standards.

Qualifications

• Previous host, customer service, hospitality, or restaurant experience preferred.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
• Friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to remain composed and positive during high-volume service periods.
• Strong attention to detail and guest satisfaction.
• Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
• Experience with reservation systems and POS platforms is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a shift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Frequent walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment.
• Comfortable working evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• Ability to move throughout indoor and outdoor dining areas as needed.
