JOB SUMMARY:
The Public Area Supervisor oversees the cleaning and maintenance of all public spaces within the hotel, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction. This role supervises housekeeping staff assigned to public areas and ensures compliance with hotel standards and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of public area attendants
- Inspect lobbies, restrooms, hallways, elevators, meeting rooms, pools and other shared spaces to ensure cleanliness standards are met
- Assign tasks and schedules to staff based on occupancy and operational needs
- Train new employees in cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and hotel standards
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies
- Monitor inventory levels and request replenishment as needed
- Respond promptly to guest requests or complaints related to public areas
- Coordinate with other departments (front desk, maintenance, security) to ensure smooth operations
- Report on maintenance issues and follow-up to ensure timely resolution
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (hospitality certification is a plus)
- Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in a hotel environment
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Fast-paced hospitality setting
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Involves early mornings, evenings, and weekend shifts
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift)
- Frequent bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds as needed
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, and carts
- Manual dexterity to handle cleaning tools and supplies
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures
- Ability to respond quickly to guest and operational needs, including moving between multiple floors or areas
