Position Overview

Title: Head Golf Professional

Reports to: General Manager

Supervises: All Golf Department Staff

Position Description: The Head Golf Professional serves as the leader of golf at Tualatin Country Club, inspiring passion for the game, building and developing a strong team, working strategically and collaboratively with club leaders and committees, managing the flow of play, reinforcing player etiquette, and ensuring members feel supported and cared for throughout their golf experience.

Success in this role is measured not only by exceptional execution and attention to budgets, but by the ability to build relationships, develop people, embrace innovation, and create an environment where members of every age and ability enjoy coming to the club.

• Deliver an exceptional golf experience that reflects the traditions and service standards of Tualatin Country Club.

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing Golf Department committed to hospitality, accountability, and operational excellence.

• Oversee all aspects of golf operations, including tournaments, merchandising, player services, and daily golf operations.

• Recruit, hire, develop, mentor, and evaluate all Golf Department team members.

Member Experience & Hospitality

• Provide a golf experience that leaves members feeling welcomed, recognized, and genuinely cared for—from the moment they enter the pro shop, through their time at the practice facilities, to the completion of their round.
• Maintain a visible presence throughout the golf operation, practice facilities, and clubhouse.
• Build meaningful relationships with members while encouraging participation across all demographics.
• Support member engagement and retention through exceptional programming and service.
• Represent the Club by playing golf with members, guests, and prospective members when appropriate.
  
  

Golf Operations

• Direct all daily golf operations, including tee sheet management, golf shop operations, outside services, pace of play, player services, and handicapping.
• Maintain operational standards that reflect the traditions and expectations of Tualatin Country Club.
• Utilize golf technology and club management systems to improve operational efficiency and member service.
• Continually evaluate operations and implement improvements that enhance the member experience.
  
  

Tournament & Event Management

• Develop and oversee an engaging annual calendar of tournaments, championships, leagues, and member events.
• Execute exceptional golf events through detailed planning, communication, and organization.
• Oversee tournament registration, scoring, rules administration, handicapping, course setup, and event logistics.
• Collaborate with Food & Beverage and Events teams so members feel welcome, recognized, and cared for from the time they arrive to the time they leave.
  
  

Player Development & Instruction

• Champion golf development opportunities for members of all ages and skill levels.
• Partner with the Director of Instruction to grow instructional programming, junior golf, women’s golf, and player development initiatives.
• Encourage participation through clinics, group instruction, and emerging teaching technologies.
• Maintain an active presence on the practice facilities by engaging with members and supporting player improvement.
  
  

Communication

• Communicate timely, accurate, and engaging information regarding golf operations, tournaments, course conditions, and Club policies to the Membership & Marketing Director.
• Produce high-quality written and digital communications that promote participation and enhance the member experience.
• Communicate in ways that demonstrate respect for all members and staff, pride in our club, and commitment to TCC’s vision and values.
  
  

Merchandising & Retail

• Develop and execute a merchandising strategy that reflects member preferences and current industry trends.
• Oversee purchasing, inventory management, pricing, vendor relationships, and retail presentation.
• Create a premier retail experience while achieving established financial goals.
• Coordinate fitting events, demonstrations, and promotional opportunities that add value for members.
  
  

Financial Management

• Develop and manage the annual Golf Operations budget.
• Monitor departmental revenues, expenses, payroll, inventory, and financial performance.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting, inventory controls, and point-of-sale procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies while maintaining exceptional service.
  
  

Golf Course & Agronomy Collaboration

• Partner closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to deliver outstanding course conditions.
• Coordinate course setup for tournaments and special events.
• Communicate course conditions, maintenance schedules, and agronomic initiatives to members.
• Club Leadership & Committee Relations
• Serve as a collaborative member of the Club’s leadership team.
• Partner with department leaders to deliver a seamless member experience across all areas of the Club.
• Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Golf Committee and other assigned committees.
• Attend committee and Board meetings, prepare operational reports, and provide professional guidance on golf operations, Rules of Golf, and strategic initiatives.
  
  

Strategic Planning & Innovation

• Support the Club’s strategic plan through thoughtful leadership and continuous improvement.
• Evaluate industry trends, technology, and best practices to enhance golf operations and the member experience.
• Develop innovative programs that increase participation, engagement, and long-term member satisfaction.
• Continually seek opportunities to elevate Tualatin Country Club as one of the premier private club golf experiences in the Pacific Northwest.
  
  

Experience And Qualifications

Including, but not limited to, the following:

• Be a current PGA Director of Golf, Head Golf Professional, or 1st/Senior Assistant with a minimum of five (5) years of experience from a recognizable, well-regarded club who has mentored under a strong and well-regarded Director of Golf or Head Golf Professional. PGA Class “A” status is essential. Most importantly, have the ability and experience to both describe and deliver a premium member and guest golf experience based on experience and history in such environments.
• Possessive of clearly developed communication skills, including verifiable strengths in responsiveness, always-respectful delivery, and strong personal presence. Someone who is known for being accountable, taking ownership, and having a high-level ability to effectively interact and communicate in multiple means of communication with the use of technology.
• Experience working in a similar private club environment vs. resort golf or daily fee environments. Be recognized as highly visible and interactive with members.
• Have verifiable experience of performing at a high level in strong ‘service-delivery’ culture club environments where clear standards of hiring, training, orienting, and evaluating staff are in place and effectively used to support those cultures.
• Have a clear passion for the game, its history, and tradition, where it can be clearly seen to positively benefit and enhance members’ enjoyment and respect for golf at TCC.
• Be referenced as leading by example in all that he/she does in his/her golf operation; essentially someone who recognizes that the golf culture is started with the appropriate and necessary tone at the top of the organizational chart. This includes being a good neighbor with other local quality clubs and golf professionals, always recognizing the ambassador role one plays.
• Have excellent business acumen, being able to clearly outline his/her history of managing the financial aspects and outcomes of his/her operation. Goal setting, achieving objectives, and processes are critical success factors in this role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Traits

• Maintain PGA of America (PGA) Membership in good standing in an active classification
• Preferably, a college degree, from a four-year university or a highly regarded PGM program
• Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations, handicap management, etc.
  
  

Compensation And Benefits

The club will provide a compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:

• Base salary ranges from $120,000-$160,000 based on qualifications and experience.
• Base salary incentive program based on five (5) components on the Head Professional Performance Scorecard, including engagement, member experience, financial, development, and “one club NPS”
• 100% of lesson income for private (1:1) lessons and club fitting; 100% of group/clinic instruction for women, juniors, couples, men, etc.
• Health insurance will be available per plan policies for the Head Golf Professional (HP) and family. Dental and vision coverage is included; further, the HP will be eligible for life insurance per TCC policies.
• The HP will be eligible to participate in the Club’s retirement plan (401 (k) plan, matched at 3%, qualify after one year, 100% vested when eligible).
• Per TCC policies, paid vacation, sick time, and bereavement, beginning with 2 weeks of paid vacation in the first year, then following the current TCC Employee Handbook guidelines.
• Tournament expenses allowance will be provided to the HP, with a focus on Oregon PGA Chapter Pro-Am entry fees paid when playing with different members throughout the golf season.
• TCC will pay the HP’s PGA dues; HP will receive family golf/club amenities privileges based on member-centric practices per TCC policies; similarly, the Club will fund pre-approved professional development/education expenses.
