ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conduct investigations concerning allegations of elderly abuse, neglect, and exploitation, using various methods which include, but are not limited to: talking and visually observing affected individuals, speaking with relatives and neighbors, discussing with health care providers and relevant others, and reviewing any pertinent records. Interview applicants by conducting home visits to assess, investigate and evaluate allegations in accordance with ODAPS (Ohio Department Adult Protective Services) protocols. Perform protective interventions and recommend protective program placements. Prepare complete and accurate client service plans and summaries to remedy contributing problems and issues. Determine initial and ongoing eligibility for social service programs and homemaker services; maintain on-going case load; deny or terminate cases as necessary. Evaluate progress of adult or living environment towards meeting objectives of the service plan, the need to modify the plan and eventual closing of the case. Calculate clients’ budgets. Refer family or caretaker to available resources; coordinate services with community agencies as necessary. Serve as an advocate for clients’ social and legal support and provide counseling services. Prepare protection orders to be filed in court; testify in court as a representative of the agency and participate in other court processes. Determine if a guardianship is needed or if one is in place; assist with the obtainment of a guardianship. Assist with the development and execution of procedures and policies for assigned areas and support goals of the department. Provide education to groups and agencies within the County about the effects of elderly abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Maintain a balance of objectivity and empathy while dealing with families living in stressful or crisis situations. Stay current with state and federal social welfare laws, rules, and regulations, and apply appropriately. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in social work, or related field and a minimum three (3) years of experience in social work, adult, or children services in a public or private health and human services agency business administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and access to, and use of own transportation. Must obtain an Ohio Human Services Training System (OHSTS) Core Training Certification within six (6) months of employment.

This is a bargaining unit position
