Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Operations Retirement System Consultant performs technical work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility in the field of retirement benefits. Performs related work.
Reports to: BERS Operations Manager
Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: The Operations Retirement System Consultant works closely with staff throughout BERS and other City Retirement Systems.
Responsibilities
· Keeps records, searches and updates files and retrieves information using computers and paper records.
· Reviews member records to ensure that summaries of accounting, reconciliation, calculation, and pension payroll data are accurate.
· Evaluates service and salary data for accuracy and identifies problems.
· Computes retirement benefits and participates in the analysis and evaluation of production records and trends.
· Responds to inquiries which have been forwarded from other units.
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
1) An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and either:
a) two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing analytical, administrative or customer service tasks; or
b) one year of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations in one or more of the following:
i) a retirement or employee benefits plan; and/or
ii) for customer service in a financial institution; and/or
iii) in a position requiring the application of law, rules, and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial, or similar tables; or
2) An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, economics, finance, data analytics, project management, business administration, public administration and/or actuarial science; or
3) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations in one or more of the following:
a) a retirement or employee benefits plan; and/or
b) for customer service in a financial institution; and/or
c) in a position requiring the application of law, rules, and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial, or similar tables; or
4) A four-year high school diploma or its educational or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time experience performing analytical, administrative or customer service tasks; or
5) A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, “3” or “4” above. College education may be substituted for the experience described in “3” or “4” above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted six months of required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, economics, finance, data analytics, project management, business administration, public administration and/or actuarial science from and accredited college or one year of experience as described in “1” above.
