JOB OVERVIEW

Provide exceptional customer service to guests by taking orders, serving guests, satisfying guest needs, maintaining clean, safe and organized bar. Follow Forbes Travel Guide and AAA Four Diamond Service Expectations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Receive and seat guests as needed.
  • Provide details on the food and beverage offerings. Take orders, answer questions about menu items and deliver food and beverages.
  • Maintain all liquor and wine par levels and complete daily or weekly requisitions.
  • Closely monitor guests dining experiences and report any issues to Restaurant Manager.
  • Follow and satisfy Forbes Travel Guide Service and AAA Four Diamond Service Expectations.
  • Follow department opening/closing checklist procedures.
  • Maintain impeccable standards of cleanliness.
  • Create guest checks and payments.
  • Responsible and accountable for all equipment and materials handled.
  • Acquire and practice exceptional menu/wine/liquor knowledge and up-selling techniques.
  • Attend training sessions and complete training project tasks.
  • Communicate and maintain strong relationships with other departments.
  • Contribute to overall resort team effort by completing additional duties as assigned.

FORBES TRAVEL GUIDE BASIC STANDARDS

  • Telephone conversation is calm and clear.
  • The guest is always asked permission before being placed on hold.
  • No telephone hold longer than 30 seconds without offering call-back.
  • Staff acknowledges the guest when appropriate and reasonably possible.
  • Staff is highly articulate and avoids slang and excessive use of phrase-fragments.
  • Staff is polite and maintains a gracious tone and appropriate pace throughout the interaction.
  • Staff readily smiles and maintains an engaging expression.
  • Staff makes eye contact and keeps focus on the guest.
  • Staff exhibits a genuine sense of interest and concern for the guest.
  • Staff is thoughtful and intuitive, demonstrating anticipatory service when appropriate and helpful.
  • Cross-departmental channels of communication among staff are consistent and complete.
  • Staff performs the requirements of their department knowledgeably and proficiently.
  • Staff can capably answer questions about the entire hotel or obtains effective and prompt assistance.
  • The guest’s name is used naturally as a signal of recognition.
  • Staff closes interactions with polite, appropriate remarks.
  • All staff encountered are wearing professional, clean and well-fitted uniforms.
  • All staff encountered are extremely well-groomed.
  • Staff maintains alert posture and behaves professionally in view of the guest.
  • Staff does not decline any request without offering appropriate alternatives.
  • The service is handled without excessive delays or interruptions.

FOUR DIAMOND SERVICE EXPECTATIONS

  • Guests are greeted promptly and cordially.
  • Guests are acknowledged even if bartender is occupied.
  • Guests' names are used at least three times during their meal.
  • Bartender is able to make suggestions about food and wine and up-sell.
  • Bartender is prepared to take guest/s order/s within one minute of greeting.
  • Orders are taken correctly.
  • First drinks are served within three minutes of ordering.
  • Another drink is offered before the previous drink is finished.
  • Bar is clean and maintained properly throughout experience.
  • Vacated spaces at the bar and cocktail tables are cleared and cleaned quickly.
  • If ordered, wine is presented and served expertly.
  • Seating area is not cluttered with items not being used by the guests.
  • Service is not obtrusive and bartender does not interrupt guest to perform service.
  • Empty glasses, dishes and silverware are removed at the guests' request, if not during normal service sequence.
  • Bartender provides attentive follow-up services.
  • Bill is itemized correctly and presented in a timely manner.
  • Guests are thanked and bid a pleasant farewell upon departure.
  • The bartender is consistently cordial, professional and knowledgeable throughout the experience.
  • All associates exhibit a professional vocabulary that is devoid of common slang.
  • Guests are graciously escorted to areas when directions are requested.
  • All associates consistently maintain eye contact with guests.
  • There is evidence that all associates are empowered by management to resolve guest issues immediately.
  • All staff associates fulfill guest's special request(s).
  • All associates are appropriately attired; name tags are clearly visible.
  • All associates demonstrate appropriate behavior and hygiene.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • At least 1 year of bartending experience in an upscale restaurant.
  • Polite, friendly demeanor.
  • Neat, clean appearance.
  • Willing to follow rules for sanitary food service.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to provide prompt, effective service.
  • Ability to operate Micros to enter orders and prepare checks.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
  • At least 21 years old to serve alcohol.

Safety Responsibilities

All employees must learn and comply with all Resort safety rules; must use appropriate safety equipment at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features or equipment, machinery or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisor if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
