Job Summary

BNY is seeking a Senior Java Full Stack Engineer to support the development of next-generation blockchain-enabled platforms within its Digital Assets technology organization. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and high-performing applications that integrate traditional financial systems with blockchain networks and tokenization platforms.

This role is based in New York, NY and supports the delivery of customer- and operations-facing applications across a modern multi-cloud environment. The engineer will contribute to both front-end and back-end development while working closely with product, architecture, and security teams to deliver innovative digital asset solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Full Stack Application Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable applications across front-end and back-end layers using modern frameworks and APIs.

• API & Services Engineering: Build resilient REST APIs and asynchronous workflows to support high-performance, distributed systems and digital asset platforms.

• Blockchain Integration: Develop services that integrate enterprise platforms with blockchain networks and smart contracts, including transaction lifecycle orchestration, event handling, and status tracking.

• Digital Assets Engineering: Apply knowledge of blockchain fundamentals (transactions, confirmations, signing, gas fees, and event logs) to design secure and reliable user experiences and backend processes.

• Architecture & Scalability: Contribute to system architecture and design patterns that enhance scalability, resilience, and performance across distributed systems.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, compliance, and security teams to deliver features aligned with regulatory and enterprise standards.

• Testing & Quality Engineering: Implement test-driven development (TDD/BDD) practices and build automated test suites across unit, integration, and API layers.

• CI/CD & DevOps Practices: Enhance software delivery pipelines through automation, CI/CD processes, and quality gates to ensure efficient and reliable deployments.

• Risk Identification & Mitigation: Proactively identify risks related to performance, scalability, and security, and implement solutions to address them.

• Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance to junior engineers, contribute to best practices, and support a culture of engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• 12 years of full stack software engineering experience

• Strong expertise in Java and backend development, including REST API design

• Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., Angular or similar)

• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals including data structures, system design, and secure coding practices

• Experience working in Agile development environments with CI/CD pipelines

• Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms

• Strong experience with SQL and relational databases; exposure to NoSQL is a plus

• Experience with messaging technologies and asynchronous processing

• Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with blockchain technologies, digital assets, or Web3 platforms

• Understanding of blockchain fundamentals including transaction processing, smart contracts, and wallet/custody concepts

• Experience integrating off-chain systems with blockchain networks (e.g., Ethereum or similar ecosystems)

• Familiarity with distributed system design patterns (e.g., event-driven architecture, CQRS, Saga)

• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) and cloud-native deployments

• Background in financial services or capital markets environments

• Experience working in startup or emerging technology environments
