Patent Agent - Vice President, Program and Project Management
We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Patent Agent - Vice President, Program and Project Management to join our Data, Intellectual Property, Technology & Innovation organization. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Conduct invention harvesting sessions with business, product, engineering, and technology teams to identify patentable innovations.
- Perform patentability assessments, invention intake reviews, and related counseling.
- Oversee the preparation and prosecution of patent applications globally, working closely with inventors and outside counsel, as appropriate.
- Support development and execution of patent portfolio strategy aligned with business priorities, innovation initiatives, and competitive positioning.
- Conduct and support prior art searches, freedom-to-operate support, and competitive landscape reviews.
- Assist with due diligence reviews in connection with strategic transactions, partnerships, investments, or other business initiatives.
- Support patent-related litigation, pre-litigation, licensing, and dispute matters.
- Help develop processes, training, and guidance to promote invention identification and IP awareness across the organization.
Track and manage deadlines, outside counsel work, and patent portfolio-related reporting and documentation.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
- Approximately 5 years of professional experience in patent preparation and prosecution; both in-house and law firm experience preferred.
- Strong experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in complex technology areas.
- Significant experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital platforms, blockchain, or networking technology.
- Prior intellectual property legal experience within the financial services industry or comparable law firm experience preferred.
- Knowledge of software and technology relevant to BNY’s business and willingness to learn new innovations.
- Excellent written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working closely with inventors, engineers, legal stakeholders, senior leaders.
