We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Global Payroll Accounting to join our Global Payroll team. This role is located in New York.
The Director, Global Payroll Accounting is responsible for overseeing all accounting activities related to payroll and other HR-related general ledger accounts. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective integration between payroll operations, payroll tax, People, and Finance.
The Director will lead the accounting processes supporting payroll for a large and complex workforce, ensuring compliance with GAAP/IFRS, regulatory requirements, and company accounting policies. The role will manage the payroll accounting close process, oversee balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure that payroll expenses, accruals, and liabilities are recorded accurately and timely across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions.
This leader will also play a key role in process transformation, automation, and system integration between HRIS, payroll platforms, and the financial systems landscape.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Oversee all accounting activities related to payroll and other HR-related general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective integration between payroll operations, payroll tax, HR, and corporate finance.
- Lead the accounting processes supporting payroll and HR for a large and complex workforce, ensuring compliance with GAAP/IFRS, regulatory requirements, and company accounting policies.
- Manage the payroll accounting close process, oversee balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure payroll expenses, accruals, and liabilities are recorded accurately and timely across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions.
- Drive process transformation, automation, and system integration between HRIS, payroll platforms, and the financial systems landscape.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
- 10–15 years of accounting experience with significant expertise in payroll or compensation accounting.
- Experience working in large multinational organizations managing complex payroll environments.
- Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS compensation accounting, SOX controls, audit environments, and financial reporting controls.
- Proven knowledge of payroll accounting flows, compensation accrual methodologies, payroll tax accounting, employee benefit accounting, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Workday Financials, etc.), and payroll platforms (Workday, ADP, SAP, etc.).
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead and develop a Payroll Accounting team, maintain clear responsibilities and workflows, and build strong cross-functional partnerships.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $130,000 and $240,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Salary : $130,000 - $240,000
