The BNSF Railway Engineering Department is responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining the infrastructure of our extensive rail network. This crucial role involves applying advanced engineering principles to address complex challenges, ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations. This is a full-time position
based in Spokane, WA, and is subject to on-call responsibilities for emergency situations, as well as rotating shifts that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays


Travel
is required approximately 50%.


This position reports to the General Director of Line Maintenance


Key responsibilities may include:


Prioritize, plan, and direct assignment
of manpower, materials, and equipment

Ensure the safety, productivity and quality of all capital and operating maintenance
activity on the division

Direct cost-effective execution and optimize
the safety and availability of the BNSF infrastructure

Consistently administer labor policies and practices across the division
and manage the resolution of local labor issues and disputes, as needed

Manage capital equipment across division
to optimize necessary fleet size and ensure high quality operation and maintenance practices by operators

Supervise
division Roadmasters

Effectively plan and coordinate
activities and resources so that deadlines and objectives are met

Maintain positive working relationships
with individuals at all levels of the organization, including working difficult issues within and across departmental boundaries and handling conflicting demands from multiple supervisors

Maintain a positive outlook and motivate individuals
and the team to higher levels of achievement by creating enthusiasm, a feeling of investment and a desire to excel

Make decisions and take action
with consideration for a wide range of factors beyond the immediate situation and an understanding of the future desired state of the organization

Display a high energy level and an appropriate sense of urgency
for taking action and getting things accomplished, while maintaining focus on what is truly important

Daily work
is conducted in an indoor/outdoor safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Current BNSF employee with FLS Certification
  • Must have obtained Tier III certification from a Manager of Engineering Certification
  • Ability to be “on-call” for emergency situations
  • Possess working knowledge of railroad union agreements
  • Show active commitment and urgency for establishing safer work practices toward the ultimate goal of an injury-free work environment
  • Ability to effectively use administrative systems to sort through and track large amounts of information
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and error-free communications in writing. Comfortable speaking to large groups?
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions
  • Able to work the above shift/hours
  • Able to meet the above travel requirements
  • Minimum 5 years management experience
  • Previously held a management position beyond first line supervisor
  • Ability to climb on/off equipment
  • Ability to bend, walk, stand and sit occasionally with breaks


Preferred Qualification:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other engineering related field.
  • Obtained BNSF Tier III Certification from a Manager of Engineering Certification
  • Five years of experience in Maintenance of Way track standards in a supervisory capacity
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft desktop applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of company operations relative to the Engineering Department
