Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Ownership Group

Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the senior financial executive responsible for the strategic and operational financial management of multiple affiliated companies, including a construction company, real estate development, and coffee shop operations. The CFO provides leadership in financial planning, accounting, treasury, tax strategy, budgeting, compliance, risk management, and business growth while ensuring the financial health of each entity and the organization as a whole. The CFO partners with executive leadership to develop long-term strategies, improve profitability, optimize cash flow, secure financing, and support sustainable growth across all business divisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Executive Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and ownership.
  • Develop long-term financial strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Provide financial analysis for executive decision-making.
  • Participate in mergers, acquisitions, and new business opportunities.
  • Lead annual strategic planning and financial forecasting.

Financial Management

  • Direct all accounting and financial reporting activities for multiple companies.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monitor financial performance across all business entities.
  • Analyze profitability by company, division, and project.
  • Develop KPI dashboards for executive management.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Prepare annual operating budgets.
  • Develop rolling cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor departmental spending.
  • Recommend cost-saving initiatives.
  • Review capital expenditure requests.
  • Forecast company growth and financing needs.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Manage company cash flow across all entities.
  • Monitor banking relationships.
  • Oversee lines of credit and financing arrangements.
  • Optimize working capital.
  • Manage debt obligations.
  • Ensure adequate liquidity for operations and projects.

Construction Company Oversight

  • Monitor job costing systems.
  • Review project budgets and profitability.
  • Analyze work-in-progress (WIP) reports.
  • Oversee construction draw requests.
  • Review subcontractor payment schedules.
  • Monitor labor cost performance.
  • Evaluate equipment financing and capital investments.
  • Ensure compliance with bonding and insurance requirements.

Real Estate Development Oversight

  • Evaluate project feasibility.
  • Perform financial modeling for new developments.
  • Analyze project returns (ROI, IRR, NPV).
  • Oversee construction financing.
  • Coordinate lender reporting.
  • Monitor project budgets.
  • Review development pro formas.
  • Manage investor reporting.
  • Oversee property acquisition financial analysis.

Coffee Shop Operations Oversight

  • Monitor daily sales reporting.
  • Analyze food and beverage costs.
  • Review labor cost percentages.
  • Monitor inventory shrinkage.
  • Oversee payroll expenses.
  • Develop operational KPI reporting.

Accounting & Internal Controls

  • Supervise and lead accounting staff.
  • Ensure accurate general ledger maintenance.
  • Implement strong internal controls.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensure timely bank reconciliations.
  • Coordinate annual audits.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting.
  • Develop financial policies and procedures.
  • Improve operational efficiencies.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Coordinate with external CPA firms.
  • Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings.
  • Ensure sales tax compliance.
  • Monitor payroll tax compliance.
  • Manage property tax reporting.
  • Oversee business license renewals.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations

Risk Management

  • Evaluate business risks.
  • Manage insurance coverage.
  • Review contracts for financial exposure.
  • Develop fraud prevention procedures.
  • Monitor cybersecurity financial risks.
  • Maintain disaster recovery financial planning.

Banking & Investor Relations

  • Maintain banking relationships.
  • Negotiate financing terms.
  • Present financial information to lenders.
  • Coordinate investor reporting.
  • Assist with capital raising efforts.
  • Support loan applications and refinancing.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • MBA preferred.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in an executive finance role.
