Job Purpose: The Operations Manager is responsible for assisting the General Manager with planning, execution, and continuous improvement of quarry operations. This role provides operational oversight of safety, production activities, equipment utilization, regulatory compliance, and workforce performance. The position plays a critical role in establishing operational standards, building scalable systems, and ensuring the quarries operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company objectives. They will act in a team leadership role with the site managers to address day-to-day needs/issues, then organize and prioritize these items to present to the General Manager for evaluation.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Combine your knowledge of extraction and processing systems with excellent interpersonal and management skills to ensure the profitability of the quarry sites within BMC Stone and BMC Sand.
- Enforce all company safety policies, site-specific safety plans, and state/federal regulatory requirements.
- Undertake regular site inspections and risk assessments to comply with all health and safety regulations.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting requirements as needed.
- Closely monitor all areas of the quarry to ensure that extraction and processing work is carried out to the highest standard.
- Provide daily production guidance, balancing sales and output.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning efforts.
- Alter the quarry's production system in accordance with the materials required.
- Track and report downtime for continuous improvement.
- Verify that all vehicles and equipment on site are maintained to an acceptable standard.
- Manage the performance of the production process and set and monitor targets.
- Develop & maintain relationships with customers and vendors.
- Manage operations to stay within the annual budget.
- Maintain up-to-date records and process necessary paperwork.
- Schedule and assist with planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Write development proposals and reports.
- Assist with the hiring process for hourly employees.
- Train and manage performance of quarry employees, handling day-to-day personnel issues.
- Help develop and implement process improvements.
Skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to drive performance through leadership.
- Strong technical understanding of quarry environments, processes, and extraction systems.
- Ability to maintain budget requirements.
- Knowledge of health and safety issues and how they relate to practical working environments.
- Ability to tolerate noisy, dirty, and uncomfortable working environments some of the time.
- Capable of addressing customer questions & issues.
- Experience with pit development & stripping projects.
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with vendors & suppliers.
- Related degree, or high school diploma with relevant experience.
- 5 years management experience required. History of responsibilities over multiple sites preferred.
- General knowledge of federal safety and mining regulations.
