Role Description:
The Dog Care Assistant is a part-time, on-site role located in Dickinson, ND. In this position, the Dog Care Assistant will provide hands-on care for dogs.
Daily tasks include:
- Maintaining clean and safe kennels and play areas.
- Following handling and safety protocols.
- Building relationships with all of our furry friends.
- Supervise and actively engage with dogs during daycare and group play.
- Safely separate and redirect dogs when necessary .
- Monitor canine body language and behavior to ensure safe interactions.
- Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized facility throughout each shift.
- Follow feeding, medication, and individualized care instructions.
- Conduct routine wellness checks and report any health or behavioral concerns to management.
- Assist with dog arrivals and departures when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, medication administration, and daily notes.
- Work collaboratively with management and fellow team members.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with pet parents.
- Follow all company safety policies and emergency procedures.
- Report any rude customers or interactions.
The Dog Care Assistant is expected to follow all company policies, support a low-stress environment for pets, and respond calmly and promptly to any issues that arise. With support from management, any new team members added to our group are sought after and cared for through professional and supporting working relationships.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- Candidates must have reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Candidates must be comfortable working with dogs of all breeds, sizes and temperaments.
- Candidates should have the ability to stay cool, calm, and collective.
- Candidates mustn't have allergies to pets.
- Candidates should have the willingness to learn canine behavior and handling techniques.
- Candidates should possess strong manual handling skills to safely lift, move, and manage dogs of various sizes while following safety guidelines.
- Candidates should possess solid interpersonal skills and communication abilities to work effectively with colleagues and pet guardians and to provide clear updates on pet care.
- Candidates should possess caregiving experience and an understanding of supportive care, with the ability to remain patient, observant, and responsive to each dog’s needs.
- Candidates should possess awareness of specialized care concepts, such as dementia care or similar conditions, and be able to apply calm, compassionate approaches to dogs that may be anxious or senior.
- Additional beneficial qualifications include prior experience in animal care or shelter work, knowledge of basic canine behavior and body language, reliability in attending scheduled shifts, and the ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Training in animal first aid or CPR, and familiarity with record-keeping or scheduling tools, is an advantage, but not necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, kneel, squat, and move quickly throughout the day.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable with frequent cleaning, including pet waste.
- Able to safely handle energetic and excitable dogs.
- Ability to work in the cold, including shoveling snow to keep up with ADA compliance.
