What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Mental Health Therapist position at Bluewater Counseling?
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) / Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
Build Something Bigger Than a Caseload.
Most counseling jobs ask you to fill a schedule.
We're looking for someone who wants to help build a practice.
BlueWater Counseling is growing, and we're searching for a clinician who is passionate about helping people, committed to clinical excellence, and excited by the opportunity to be part of something that's continually improving.
We're intentionally building a practice where providers feel supported, respected, and empowered to do their best work. We believe great clinicians shouldn't spend their careers feeling like they're just another number or another name on a schedule.
If you're looking for a place where leadership listens, your ideas matter, and your career can grow alongside a growing organization, we'd love to meet you.
About BlueWater Counseling
BlueWater Counseling is a growing outpatient behavioral health practice serving individuals, families, and the court system throughout West Michigan.
Our clinicians provide a wide range of services, including:
- Individual counseling
- Family and relationship counseling
- Substance use treatment
- Court-ordered treatment
- Group therapy
- Driver's license evaluations
While we're proud of the services we provide, we're even more proud of the culture we're creating.
We believe the best care happens when clinicians are supported by strong leadership, efficient systems, and a team that genuinely enjoys working together. That's why we're continually investing in better processes, better technology, and better ways to support both our clients and our providers.
Who We're Looking For
Technical skills matter. Character matters more.
We're looking for someone who:
- Genuinely enjoys helping people.
- Wants to continue learning and growing as a clinician.
- Takes pride in providing thoughtful, ethical, evidence-based care.
- Enjoys collaborating with others rather than working in isolation.
- Wants to be part of a practice that's growing and improving, not standing still.
Whether you're early in your career or have years of experience, we're interested in people who care deeply about their clients and want to be part of a team that's building something meaningful.
What You'll Do
As a member of our clinical team, you'll:
- Provide outpatient counseling services for a diverse client population.
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation.
- Collaborate with fellow clinicians and administrative staff.
- Build lasting therapeutic relationships that create meaningful change.
You'll have the clinical autonomy to make decisions based on what's best for your clients while being supported by leadership that respects your professional judgment.
What It's Like to Work Here
We're intentional about the kind of workplace we're creating.
That means:
- Leadership that is approachable, responsive, and invested in your success.
- Administrative support that allows clinicians to focus on clinical care.
- A collaborative environment where questions are encouraged and ideas are welcomed.
- Systems and workflows that are continually improving, not stuck in "the way we've always done it."
- Opportunities to grow alongside a practice that continues to expand.
We don't believe in simply hiring employees.
We believe in building a team.
What We Value
Our culture is built on a few simple principles.
Clients come first.
Every decision begins with what's best for the people we serve.
Integrity matters.
We believe trust is earned through honesty, accountability, and professionalism.
Clinical excellence never stops.
Great clinicians never stop learning, and neither do we.
Collaboration beats competition.
We support one another because we know the best care happens when great people work together.
Growth is intentional.
We're continually improving our practice and creating opportunities for the people who grow with us.
If these values sound like the kind of environment you've been looking for, there's a good chance we'd enjoy getting to know you.
Why BlueWater?
Many organizations talk about culture.
We're working hard to build one.
We're creating a place where providers are trusted, supported, challenged, and encouraged to build long-term careers, not simply fill appointment slots.
As our practice continues to grow, we're committed to recognizing contribution, investing in our team, and creating opportunities for those who want to grow alongside us.
If you're looking for a practice where your work is appreciated, your voice is heard, and your future isn't limited by where you start, we'd love to start a conversation.
Qualifications
- Michigan LPC or LMSW license (or license eligibility)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to ethical, evidence-based care
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
If you're excited about what we're building but don't feel like you check every box, we still encourage you to apply. We believe great clinicians come from a variety of backgrounds, and we'd rather have a conversation than miss the opportunity to meet someone exceptional.
