Duties And Responsibilities
(CDL Class A Restricted or CDL Class B)
- Operate a Class A commercial vehicle to transport scrap metal and materials within the recycling yard and to external locations. This will include a straight truck without a trailer (Class B)
- Safely maneuver and navigate within the recycling yard, which may include tight spaces and varying terrain.
- Assist in loading and unloading scrap metal onto trucks using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or cranes.
- Ensure secure placement and balancing of loads to maintain safety during transport.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating equipment and handling materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent hazards and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Complete necessary paperwork and shipment documentation, including weight tickets, manifests, and vehicle inspection reports.
- Conduct basic maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment, promptly reporting issues to maintenance staff.
- 1 year of experience with a valid Class A Restricted or Class B Commercial Driver's License or current employment at BlueScope Recycling with good performance working toward obtaining CDL.
- Experience driving commercial vehicles, preferably in a scrap recycling or similar industry.
- Ability to operate forklifts or other loading equipment safely.
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to the transportation and handling of scrap materials.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete paperwork accurately.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects as needed.
- Experience in the scrap metal industry preferred.
- Experience with semi-end-dump, semi-roll-off, flatbed, van, and tin trailers.
- No transmission restrictions.
