We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Foreman to lead field operations on commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects. This role is responsible for supervising field crews, coordinating daily jobsite activities, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest level of workmanship.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive experience installing and managing HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems while motivating crews and maintaining strong communication with project management and clients.
Position Overview
The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day execution of mechanical construction projects in the field. This individual will oversee installation crews, coordinate with subcontractors and other trades, ensure materials and equipment are available, and maintain project schedules while promoting a culture of safety and quality.
This position requires a motivated leader who can solve problems in the field, communicate effectively with project managers and superintendents, and consistently deliver high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership
- Lead and supervise mechanical installation crews on commercial and industrial construction projects
- Plan daily work activities and assign tasks to maximize productivity
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to maintain project schedules
- Provide hands-on leadership and technical guidance to field personnel
- Mentor apprentices and junior mechanics while promoting skill development
Project Execution
- Install and oversee the installation of HVAC equipment, piping systems, ductwork, plumbing, and other mechanical systems
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules to ensure accurate installation
- Coordinate work with general contractors, subcontractors, and other trades
- Monitor project progress and communicate schedule updates or potential delays to project management
- Identify and resolve field issues quickly to minimize project disruptions
Quality Control
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards, project specifications, and applicable mechanical codes
- Conduct routine inspections of completed work
- Verify installations are completed accurately before inspections
- Support project commissioning and system startup activities
- Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and professionalism
Safety
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on every jobsite
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
- Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Communication & Coordination
- Serve as the primary field liaison between project management and field personnel
- Coordinate deliveries of materials, tools, and equipment
- Maintain daily reports, manpower logs, and jobsite documentation
- Participate in project meetings and communicate progress to project stakeholders
- Build positive working relationships with customers, inspectors, and general contractors
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in commercial or industrial mechanical construction
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Foreman or Lead Mechanic preferred
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, piping, plumbing, hydronic systems, and mechanical equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
- Experience supervising field crews and coordinating daily operations
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
