What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician Specialist position at BluePearl Vet, LLC?
The Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) supports Clinicians in providing specialty medical services with advanced skills, specialized knowledge in the delivery of nursing care for pets. Meets all competencies and maintains proficiency of Credentialed Vet Tech IV and additional skills for VTS per state practice as defined by the state’s government body. Mentors lower-level associates.
Job Responsibilities
Approaches and handles patients according to safety protocols, being compassionate, calm, and gentle.
Interprets and completes in-patient and out-patient work up requests by veterinarian within their skill set.
Completes routine and allowable patient care in area of specialty, including but not limited to developing plans, monitoring patients, calculating medication for dispense, performing anesthesia, and assisting Veterinarians.
Performs allowable tests and operates equipment in area of specialty.
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment for all procedures per specialty.
Performs, gathers, and submits advanced diagnostic testing.
Educates clients on patient findings in accordance with veterinarian diagnosis and handouts.
Educates clients on at home patient care.
Prepares medications and patient for discharge, communicating discharge instructions to client.
Addresses client concerns and answers them appropriately within job duties.
Schedules patients withing assigned department and with other departments as needed.
Follows and upholds the veterinary technology profession’s ethical codes.
Maintains confidentiality of clients, doctors, and staff.
Understands hospital estimates and has presents them in a clear manner to clients.
Mentors and trains level I and II veterinary technicians and assistants.
Assists in coordinating and guiding daily service flow including any interactions of additional staff rotating through the department, which may include doctors (interns/residents).
Understands adverse physiologic response to pre-anesthetic, induction, and inhalant drugs.
Demonstrates advanced proficiency in one or more specialties and maintains all skills and knowledge of a Veterinary Technician level IV.
Assists the Clinician on staff with the organization and planning of workflow for the shift.
Trains and mentors Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, and students.
Participates in at least one hospital training per calendar year.
Publishes an in-hospital article once per calendar year.
Models’ exceptional professional standards consistently and encourages strong working relationships.
Maintains their CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT in good standing at all times.
Maintains their VTS by fulfilling their respective Academy’s requirements.
Other job duties as assigned.
