Heavy Forklift Operator – Multiple Shifts
Location: Russellville, KY
Starting Pay: $20.00 per hour
Position Summary
The Heavy Forklift Operator reports directly to the Site Supervisor or Warehouse Manager and is responsible for material handling activities supporting Bluegrass and customer production and warehouse operations. This role operates within demanding manufacturing and warehousing environments and requires strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate has at least two years of recent experience operating heavy forklifts (20-ton or larger) and maintains a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safety, delivery, and quality standards are met at all times
- Perform heavy material handling using 20-ton (or larger) forklifts
- Maintain professional communication with customers and team members
- Communicate material and supply needs to ensure operational efficiency
- Identify and escalate issues through proper channels
- Assist with all operational aspects as needed
- Train new team members on facility processes and procedures
- Demonstrate accountability and ownership of assigned tasks
- Work effectively under pressure while meeting customer demands and deadlines
- Maintain consistent attendance
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 2 years of recent experience operating heavy forklifts (20-ton or larger)
- Current, valid Driver’s License (cannot be suspended, revoked, or expired)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Solid understanding of manufacturing and/or warehouse processes
- Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work extended shifts (up to 12 hours)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (up to 12 hours)
- Frequent bending, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, and grasping
- Ability to lift and carry 30–50 lbs routinely
- Repetitive use of hands and arms with strong eye/hand coordination
- Ability to work in environments ranging from climate-controlled spaces to extreme heat or cold
- Exposure to noise, vibration, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, and sharp tools
Tools & Equipment Used
- 20-ton (heavy) forklifts
- Handheld scanning devices and WMS systems
- Pallet jacks
- Various production and repair tools (including air-powered tools)
- Measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, gauges, rulers)
- Radios, mirrors, flashlights
- Required PPE: steel-toed footwear, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves
