An Outside-Plant Engineer (OSP) plays a prominent role within the Bluegrass Network Environment. The primary responsibility of an OSP Engineer revolves around the construction and maintenance of plant infrastructure, design, and engineering as well as providing a route analysis of underground & aerial fiber optic installations. The Outside Plant Engineer provides immediate assistance to customers and partners when issues arise.
Responsibilities include support and engineering of network equipment and facilities, maintenance of Bluegrass Network properties, and oversee all equipment construction projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor & Maintain the Layer 1 DWDM network for reliability and stability.
- Review and schedule all equipment, OSP, and ISP cable install projects.
- Assist partners and contractors with emergency restoration of the fiber network.
- Interface with vendors, engineering firms and partner companies for all installation, relocations, and additions of fiber network.
- Review 811 (Call Before You Dig) tickets daily and perform field locates in a timely manner.
- Maintain HVAC, Electrical DC, plumbing & routine generator maintenance on all company locations.
- Other duties assigned as well.
Background & Experience:
- Telecom background with good understanding of DWDM networks, fiber network planning & switching network.
- Experienced working with technical documentation/references.
- Familiarity with Google Earth, MapCom and network monitoring systems.
- Working knowledge of PC’s.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Valid driver’s license.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associates degree/Technical college degree or equivalent work-related experience.
Requirements:
Interested applicants must live in Warren County or Nelson County, Kentucky, with quick access to I65 due to travel. This position does require on call, night and weekend work, and travel to remote sites.
