Stepping Stones Behavioral Health Organization and Bluegrass Healing Partners (BHSO) are dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centered behavioral health, substance use treatment, and supportive services to individuals and families across Eastern Kentucky. We are seeking a skilled, motivated, and detail-oriented Grant Writer to support both organizations in identifying funding opportunities, preparing competitive grant proposals, and securing financial resources that advance our programs and services.

Position Overview

The Grant Writer will play a key role in researching federal, state, and private funding opportunities; developing high-quality grant applications; and coordinating with leadership and program staff to gather required information and data. This position requires strong writing skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience in behavioral health or human services grant development.

This is a contract or full-time position depending on experience, with flexible scheduling and remote work options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and identify grant opportunities from federal, state, local, and private funding sources.
  • Prepare, write, and submit persuasive, accurate, and fully compliant grant proposals.
  • Collaborate with leadership to collect program data, budgets, and required attachments.
  • Maintain a calendar of submission deadlines and ensure timely delivery of all materials.
  • Assist in developing budgets and narratives that align with funder requirements.
  • Write letters of intent (LOIs), proposals, progress reports, and renewal applications.
  • Track awarded funds, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide ongoing communication and updates on grant status to agency leadership.
  • Assist with narrative development for special projects, contracts, and expansion initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a grant writer, preferably in behavioral health, healthcare, education, or non-profit sectors.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading ability.
  • Ability to interpret funder guidelines and develop compliant, competitive applications.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid, SAMHSA, HRSA, DOJ, and state behavioral health funding preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Health, Social Services, Business, or related field preferred (experience may substitute).

Compensation

  • Competitive pay based on experience.
  • Contract or employee status available.
