The Community Restoration Coordinator (CRC) leads the day-to-day execution and coordination of Blue Water Baltimore’s community restoration projects, including tree planting, maintenance, green stormwater infrastructure (GSI), and field-based restoration work. Working closely with the Sr. Manager of Community Restoration and field staff, the CRC ensures projects are implemented safely, efficiently, and to a high standard while supporting ongoing planning and program coordination. The CRC coordinates field operations and forestry activities, including daily work planning, site logistics, materials and equipment management, and data tracking, while guiding field staff to maintain clear expectations, safety, and quality standards. This role also supports community-facing efforts such as volunteer events, tree giveaways, and outreach, serving as a key connector between field operations and community engagement. This position is primarily in-person in the community. A valid Maryland driver’s license is required and must be maintained. The role requires occasional evening and weekend work.

Requirements
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Restoration Planning and Implementation –
- Leads the planning and execution of tree planting to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality field operations.
- Coordinates all tree planting logistics, including ordering, receiving, and managing tree stock and related materials.
- Prepares planting plans and ensures the crew has clear daily instructions and the necessary equipment to execute each project.
- Manages the Forestry Yard and maintains accurate inventories of tools, supplies, and planting materials.
- Documents implementation progress and provides timely updates to staff leads.
- Operates vehicles, trailers, and field equipment as needed to support restoration activities.
- Supports the SMCR in Design and Implementation goals for GSI projects
- Maintenance Planning and Implementation –
- Develops and oversees annual, monthly, weekly, and daily maintenance schedules for forestry sites and GSI projects.
- Plans and coordinates watering, pruning, site inspections, and other maintenance tasks to ensure long-term project success.
- Prepares the crew with appropriate instructions, tools, and safety guidance for all maintenance activities.
- Coordinates volunteer maintenance projects in collaboration with the SMCR and CEM and ensures operational readiness for each event.
- Maintains and orders tools and supplies required to complete maintenance work effectively.
- Volunteer Events and Community Engagement –
- Prepares operational plans and logistics for volunteer planting, maintenance, pruning, and tTree giveaway events.
- Ensures that tools, materials, and staffing resources are organized and ready prior to each volunteer event.
- Leads on-site operations during volunteer events and provides clear training to volunteers on proper planting and maintenance practices.
- Ensure that volunteers have a safe, positive, and well-supported experience.
- Leads tree giveaway events by managing event flow, staffing, logistics, and reporting.
- Supports community outreach and information sharing
- Geographic Information System (GIS) Analysis and Program Development –
- Develops, manages, and enhances the organization’s GIS systems related to restoration planning, implementation, and maintenance.
- Uses ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to create maps, field work plans, and data collection tools for the crew.
- Establishes and maintains data collection protocols to ensure accurate and complete reporting of field activities.
- Analyzes seasonal forestry and maintenance data to assess project performance and inform operational planning.
- Ensures that GIS data is organized, updated, and aligned with internal reporting requirements.
- A graduate with coursework or a degree in an environmental field such as Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Ecology, Natural Resources, Biology, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in landscaping, forestry, construction, horticulture, field restoration, or related outdoor fieldwork, including experience working as part of a crew.
- Previous experience in field operations, volunteer coordination, or environmental restoration work is strongly preferred.
- A valid Maryland driver’s license and the ability to safely operate trucks, trailers, and field equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and implement project plans, planting plans, and site designs.
- Ability to work safely around marked utilities and in dynamic outdoor environments.
- Strong attention to detail, consistency, time management, and punctuality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort using digital tools for planning and communication.
- Ability to lead volunteers and support group project activities in the field.
- Interest and willingness to learn new skills related to restoration operations, crew management, GIS, budgeting, and data systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute positively to group dynamics.
- Ability to work most weekends during spring and fall planting seasons with a flexible schedule (e.g., Tuesday–Saturday work week).
- Foundational proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, with the ability to create or edit field maps and contribute to data collection workflows.
- At least one year of experience using ArcGIS, conducting field data collection, or managing environmental datasets through academic coursework or field internships.
- Knowledge of native tree species, tree planting best practices, and maintenance requirements appropriate to the Chesapeake Bay region.
