The Opportunity
Blue Stars offers an established client pipeline, warm inbound leads, and automated lead management through HubSpot. No cold calling. No building from scratch. You bring the expertise, the results, and the presence — we bring the infrastructure.
Our business grows almost exclusively through word-of-mouth and referrals. We do not rely on advertising or marketing campaigns. This is why our standards are so high. The ideal candidate is someone clients become extremely enthusiastic about — and can't help but recommend.
First year earnings with a full roster typically reach $75K annually at approximately 30 hours per week. Top performers earn $100–105K . Compensation is per project for client work and hourly for non-client work including meetings, training, and professional development.
Who You Are
Your work is already excellent. You have documented results placing students at Ivy League institutions, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, and other top programs — particularly in STEM fields. You can speak to those results with specificity and confidence.
You do not view client development as a distraction from the real work. You understand that in a boutique high-stakes environment the relationship begins at the first conversation, and you are genuinely good at that first conversation.
You are unflappable. When a student situation gets complicated you don't panic — you strategize. You anticipate problems before they become crises. Your confidence comes not from performance but from preparation and expertise.
You have humility. You know that excellence requires diligent work and you never stop doing it.
You may not have taken a traditional path. That is fine. We welcome candidates whose admissions experience has been built outside traditional counseling firms — including those who have worked independently, alongside an academic career, or through essay editing and counseling at other admissions firms — provided the results are documented and verifiable.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive college counseling to high-achieving students, grades 9–12
- Develop compelling admissions narratives and craft standout essays
- Guide strategic extracurricular development with emphasis on STEM students
- Research and recommend top-tier summer programs, research opportunities, and competitions
- Participate in warm lead consultations and client development
- Maintain exceptional client relationships that generate strong referrals
- Collaborate effectively with team members in a fully remote environment
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years college counseling experience with verifiable top-tier placement results
- Exceptional writing and editing skills for high-impact essay development
- Genuine comfort with the client development dimension of this work
- Strong familiarity with Bay Area academic culture and the expectations of high-achieving families in this market, whether through residency, having studied here, or having worked with Bay Area students
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Zoom, HubSpot or equivalent CRM, Asana or equivalent project management
- Availability on one weekend day and weekday afternoons and evenings
Why Blue Stars?
- Work alongside two principal counselors who are recognized authorities in competitive admissions
- Established client pipeline with warm inbound leads — no cold calling
- Business growth driven entirely by reputation and referrals — excellence is directly rewarded
- Collaborative, high-standards team culture
- Significant earning potential tied directly to the quality of your work
Realistic Timeline
We want to be straightforward: this is a ramp-up opportunity. We anticipate the right candidate beginning to build their roster in August. A full client load is earned over time through demonstrated excellence and your ability to present yourself compellingly to our discerning clientele. The right person will see this as an opportunity.
To Apply
We keep the initial application focused. Please submit your resume and responses to both of the following questions:
- Describe your approach to college counseling. What does your process look like from the moment you take on a new student, and what do you believe separates excellent counseling from merely adequate counseling?
- Describe a situation where things were not going well with a student or family. What specifically was not working, how did you diagnose the problem, what strategy did you employ to remedy it, and how did you turn the situation around successfully?
Strong candidates will be invited to submit a portfolio of three case studies — two STEM and one non-STEM — of students admitted to top 10 institutions, followed by a conversation with Dr. Morgenstern.
