Job Summary:
Blue Star Security is looking to hire a Director of Safety and Security. The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for guests, Team Members, and property. This leadership role requires a strategic and innovative thinker, with strong operational skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to prioritizing safety protocols with exceptional guest service. This position will oversee security operations, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, incident response, and regulatory compliance within the hospitality environment. The ideal candidate will lead with integrity and innovation ensuring that the safety measures enhance the overall guest and associate experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Operations
- Lead and manage all security staff including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Oversee surveillance systems, access control, and emergency response systems.
- Monitor and investigate security incidents, thefts, accidents, and breaches.
- Partner with law enforcement and emergency responders as needed.
Safety and Risk Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain property safety policies and procedures in line with local, state, and federal laws.
- Develop, maintain and train all staff in Protective Action (Evacuation & Shelter-in-Place) measures for the location.
- Conduct a yearly safety audit and risk assessment for the location. Create an environment where the risk assessment process is a living document throughout the year based on assigned talent, special events or changes in the operating environment.
- Develop, implement and train team members on response plans such as, but not limited to: bomb threats, unattended/suspicious packages, de-escalation techniques, theft and Levy’s Responsible Alcohol Procedures.
- Lead crisis and emergency preparedness efforts, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and natural disaster readiness.
Guest and Team Member Safety
- Promote a guest-first security culture that balances safety with hospitality.
- Ensure all Team Members are trained in workplace safety and emergency protocols.
- Handle guest incidents or security concerns with discretion and professionalism.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire codes, ADA, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and safety training.
- Prepare and present reports to senior leadership regarding safety and security performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in security or safety roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position within the hospitality industry.
- Experience managing emergency response and crisis management.
- Strong knowledge of security systems, OSHA regulations, and risk assessment procedures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Certifications such as CPP (Certified Protection Professional), PSP (Physical Security Professional), or OSHA training are a plus.
Preferred Traits:
- Calm under pressure and able to handle stressful situations with professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a guest-centric approach.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive mindset toward risk mitigation.
- Experience with OpenPath Alta Access Control and Enyvsion Camera software not required but a plus.
Working Conditions:
- On-call availability for emergencies.
- Requires walking the property, standing for extended periods, and occasional exposure to inclement weather or emergency conditions.
