Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Project Engineer – Power Generation to support a large-scale power generation construction project at an active jobsite in Wheatfield, Indiana. This role will provide critical project engineering, field coordination, contract support, cost tracking, quality oversight, and construction execution support across a complex industrial environment.

The ideal candidate will bring experience supporting combined cycle or simple cycle power plant construction, heavy industrial work, or similarly complex field-based projects. This individual will work closely with the Project Manager, construction management team, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to help ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project scope, cost, schedule, and quality expectations.

This is a hands-on, onsite role for a strong project engineer who can interpret technical documents, support field execution, manage project controls activities, and help maintain structure across project communications, reporting, and commercial processes.


Key Responsibilities

Field Execution & Construction Support

  • Report onsite five days per week to support active project execution and construction management activities.
  • Support field execution across a large-scale power generation or heavy industrial construction project.
  • Partner with the onsite construction management team to help ensure work progresses according to engineering plans, specifications, project requirements, and safety standards.
  • Inspect the construction site to monitor progress, identify issues, and verify conformance to approved engineering documents and construction standards.
  • Analyze and understand plans, specifications, drawings, and quality requirements to support successful field execution.
  • Provide day-to-day support based on fluctuating project hours and execution demands.


Project Engineering & Technical Support

  • Interpret technical specifications, design drawings, schedules, reports, and other project documents to support assigned responsibilities.
  • Support preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, environmental studies, and other project documentation as necessary.
  • Assist with drafting and responding to RFIs, NCRs, and other technical and field-related documentation.
  • Provide contract interpretation and clarification as needed to support field execution and project coordination.
  • Support logistics and material-related activities, including review and inventory of materials and equipment.


Cost, Schedule & Commercial Support

  • Support oversight of contract adherence related to cost, scope, schedule, quality, and performance.
  • Maintain and update project schedules, including monthly schedule updates in coordination with the construction manager or project scheduler.
  • Understand project cost and productivity data and help monitor job costs and budget performance.
  • Maintain, verify, and report cost and income quantities for completed work.
  • Review, approve, and submit progress billings and invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and audit monthly cost, income, and cash flow projections.
  • Coordinate pricing and support commercial activities such as change orders, claims, and other project cost adjustments.
  • Work closely with the construction management team to control job costs and support production budget management.


Contract Administration & Performance Monitoring

  • Routinely monitor contract performance to ensure obligations are being met and key milestones are achieved.
  • Support commercial and administrative activities tied to project contracts and contractor performance.
  • Maintain organized project files, records, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in tracking and reporting project deliverables, milestones, and status updates for leadership and controls purposes.


Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Prepare and implement quality control and quality assurance procedures in compliance with contract requirements and company standards.
  • Review department procedures and project processes for compliance and correctness.
  • Perform quality-related activities such as audits, nonconformance documentation, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Act as a liaison with suppliers and internal/external stakeholders on quality-related matters.
  • Help ensure adequate corrective actions are implemented in cases of noncompliance.


Reporting, Communication & Project Coordination

  • Prepare and maintain agendas, meeting minutes, and action item logs for weekly project update meetings.
  • Assist with development of executive update presentations and leadership reports.
  • Support review of project schedules and forecasts in coordination with project controls and construction leadership.
  • Assist with daily project management activities such as procurement coordination, communications tracking, lessons learned, and maintenance of project management documents.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with project teams, contractors, leadership, and owners.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Support onsite construction management and field execution activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Inspect work progress and verify alignment with engineering and quality requirements.
  • Track cost, progress billing, productivity, and schedule updates.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, field staff, and project leadership on issues, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Assist with change orders, claims support, NCRs, RFIs, and project correspondence.
  • Prepare meeting materials, logs, reports, and project documentation.
  • Help maintain structure across project files, schedules, cost tracking, and communication workflows.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in project engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting large, complex construction projects that include internal/external and labor/non-labor cost components.
  • Experience supporting the construction of combined cycle or simple cycle power plants, or other heavy industrial projects.
  • Experience building or managing heavy industrial work.
  • General contracting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of multiple construction disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical.
  • Ability to interpret and execute assigned duties using technical specifications, design drawings, schedules, and project documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with job teams, management, clients, and contractors.
  • Ability to analyze reports, correspondence, procedures, and technical instructions and translate them into clear actions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, interpret data, and manage multiple variables in field-based project environments.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting active jobsite operations in a power generation or industrial construction environment.
  • Experience with project cost tracking, billing, cash flow forecasting, and change order support.
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures, audits, and corrective action processes.
  • Experience supporting project managers with procurement, logistics, reporting, and schedule updates.
  • Exposure to owner-side or EPC project environments is a plus.
