What are the responsibilities and job description for the Irrigation Technician: Summer Job for College Students – Outdoor, Hands-On, Paid Training position at Blue Sky Rain?
Summer Internship – Hands-On Outdoor Work for Students & Recent Grads (Paid Training!)
Looking for a summer job that actually prepares you for the real world?
Blue Sky Rain Sprinkler Specialists is hiring motivated college students, trade school students, and recent grads for our paid summer internship program. If you like solving problems, working outside, and learning technical skills that employers love—this could be the opportunity for you.
We've been in business for 21 years and have trained dozens of successful interns—future engineers, IT pros, doctors, and business leaders—who started with us and gained real-world skills that set them apart. Some return for a second or third summer. Many still credit us years later.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Troubleshooting and repairing sprinkler systems (don’t worry—we’ll teach you everything)
- Diagnosing issues in real-time and applying smart, hands-on solutions
- Communicating clearly with customers about what’s wrong and how you’ll fix it
- Working outdoors in the Birmingham heat, rain, or shine
- Building a strong foundation of mechanical, electrical, and customer service skills
We’re Looking For:
- Current college students, trade school students, or recent graduates available for full-time summer work (option to stay part-time during the school year)
- People who enjoy physical work, thinking on their feet, and being outside
- Strong communicators who are friendly, respectful, and professional
- Honest, dependable workers who take pride in their work—even when no one’s watching
- Previous job experience is required (no irrigation experience necessary—we’ll train you)
- A solid college/trade school GPA (include it on your resume!)
- A clean driving record and ability to pass a drug test
- Physical fitness—this job requires squatting, bending, lifting, and endurance in the heat
What Makes This Internship Different:
- $20—$22 per hr starting pay with room to grow quickly
- World-class training—you’ll learn valuable skills most people don’t gain until years into a career
- Daily lunches provided (sandwiches, snacks, fresh fruit)
- Work shirts, hats, and use of a company truck while on the job
- A respectful, tight-knit team that supports each other
- A serious resume booster for anyone heading into the workforce
This is a technical, fast-paced, physically demanding job.
It’s not for everyone. But if you’re sharp, hardworking, and want to be trusted with real responsibility, this could be the most rewarding job you’ve ever had.
