About the Opportunity
We're looking for an HR Director to build and professionalize the HR function for a company in the middle of substantial change: new leadership, new processes, and a growth trajectory that will likely double the number of operating sites within the year. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role reporting directly to the President & COO, with a clear path to the executive leadership team as the company scales.
What You'll Do
- Own compliance and standardization across the HR function: employment law, offer letters, onboarding, and the checks and balances that don't exist consistently today
- Build out a real performance management framework, moving the organization beyond a once-a-year check-in
- Develop and mentor an HR Business Partner who has HR aptitude but needs experienced leadership
- Lead succession planning conversations for a team with several employees approaching retirement
- Provide HR support and infrastructure as the company adds new business units through M&A
- Build credibility with a unionized driver and warehouse population, including working within an active labor contract
- Partner with senior leadership on change management and employee engagement during a period of significant organizational transformation
- Sit on the Senior Leadership Team and act as a trusted partner to the President & COO
What We're Looking For
- Experience in distribution, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing environments — food industry experience is a plus but not required
- Direct experience operating within a unionized workforce
- A generalist background with the range to handle compliance, performance management, employee relations, and org development
- Someone who has run HR at a regional, multi-site operation and can bring that playbook to a company still building its foundation
- A leader who can mentor and develop junior HR talent, not just manage around them
- High emotional intelligence and approachability — this is a long-tenured, family-culture organization where the wrong first impression is very hard to recover from
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and rolling up your sleeves, particularly with frontline warehouse and driver employees
- Career trajectory suggesting room to grow into a broader HR leadership or Chief People Officer role over time
Salary : $160,000 - $190,000
