Job Title: Golf Course Superintendent
Position Summary:
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, care, and presentation of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This role ensures optimal playing conditions while managing staff, budgets, and environmental practices. The superintendent works closely with golf management to deliver a high-quality experience for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and roughs
- Develop and implement agronomic programs, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control
- Manage and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage
- Supervise, train, and schedule grounds maintenance staff
- Prepare and manage annual budgets, including labor, equipment, and materials
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
- Monitor turf health and take proactive measures to prevent disease and damage
- Coordinate course setup for tournaments and special events
- Maintain equipment inventory and oversee repairs and replacements
- Communicate regularly with golf professionals, management, and stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with supervisory experience
- Knowledge of various types of turfgrass species, soil management, and pest control practices
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Experience with irrigation systems and maintenance equipment
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)
