Position Title: Junior High Social Studies Teacher
Location: Blue Ridge Junior High
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary:
The Social Studies Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering instruction in history, geography, civics, and economics for junior high students (grades 7–8). The teacher fosters critical thinking, civic responsibility, and an understanding of diverse cultures while aligning instruction with Arizona state standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Arizona Social Studies Standards
- Teach content including U.S. history, world history, geography, government, and economics
- Promote critical thinking, inquiry, and discussion-based learning
- Assess and monitor student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance learning
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance
- Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff
- Participate in professional development and school/district initiatives
- Supervise students and fulfill assigned duties (e.g., lunch, hall, or extracurricular activities)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, History, Education, or related field
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement (e.g., Social Studies or History)
- Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Knowledge of adolescent development and instructional strategies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience at the junior high level
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Experience integrating technology into instruction
Working Conditions:
- Classroom environment with occasional school events or activities
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to actively engage with students in a classroom setting
