Position Title: Junior High Physical Education Teacher
Location: Blue Ridge Junior High School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary:
The Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive physical education program for junior high students (grades 6–8). The teacher promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and sportsmanship while ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment aligned with Arizona state standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons aligned with Arizona Physical Education Standards
- Teach skills related to fitness, sports, movement, and overall wellness
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among students
- Assess and monitor student progress in physical fitness and skill development
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students, including those with diverse abilities
- Maintain a safe environment and enforce safety rules and procedures
- Organize and manage equipment and facilities
- Collaborate with staff, administration, and parents to support student success
- Supervise students during class, locker room transitions, and school activities as assigned
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessments
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, and district initiatives
- Support extracurricular activities, such as coaching or clubs, if assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement (Physical Education K–12)
- Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Knowledge of adolescent development and instructional best practices
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching or coaching experience at the junior high level
- CPR/First Aid certification
Working Conditions:
- Indoor and outdoor environments, including gymnasiums and athletic fields
- Ability to lift and move equipment
- Standing, walking, and active participation for extended periods
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate physical activities and exercises
- Ability to supervise and actively engage with students in a variety of physical settings
