Position Summary
We are seeking a warm, organized, and enthusiastic Lower Elementary Teacher to teach students in grades 1–3. The ideal candidate holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license and has Montessori certification OR is willing to obtain Montessori certification while working here. The teacher will design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons, manage a mixed-age Montessori-style classroom, maintain ongoing assessment and family communication, and participate actively in the school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a standards-aligned, Montessori-informed curriculum for grades 1–3: literacy, math, science, social studies, practical life, and grace & courtesy.
- Prepare and maintain a prepared environment and Montessori materials; ensure classroom areas are clean, inviting and developmentally appropriate.
- Differentiate instruction and use ongoing formative assessments to meet diverse learner needs.
- Maintain positive communication with families: weekly updates, conferences, progress reports.
- Collaborate with school leadership and colleagues on curriculum, student support, and school events.
- Supervise and mentor classroom assistants or practicum students if assigned.
- Participate in required professional development and school community activities.
Required Qualifications
- Virginia teaching license OR actively pursuing VA licensure with a clear timeline.
- Experience teaching primary-aged children (grades 1–3) in a classroom setting.
- Willingness to learn and implement Montessori pedagogy.
- Strong classroom management, lesson planning, and communication skills.
- Commitment to the school’s mission, values, and to fostering an inclusive classroom community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Montessori certification (primary / lower elementary).
- Experience with mixed-age Montessori classroom management and materials.
- Experience with formative assessment and standards mapping.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $40,000 – $57,000 (actual placement dependent on licensure, Montessori credential, and experience).
- Candidates with current VA license Montessori certification: higher range.
- Candidates obtaining Montessori certification while working: mid-range with certification support.
