POSITION OVERVIEW

Position Title: Independent Furniture Assembler (1099 Contractor)
Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099) - Per-Job Basis
Pay Model: Per-Job Fixed Rate
Location: Greater Austin, Texas Metro Area
Schedule: Flexible - Pick jobs that fit your availability

Core Responsibilities

1. Assemble Furniture in Customer Homes

• Follow detailed assembly instructions precisely
• Use hand and power tools correctly and safely
• Assemble in customer's specified location
• Common furniture types: IKEA, Wayfair, Amazon, Target, custom pieces
• Typical items: Beds, dressers, desks, shelves, entertainment centers, couches
• You'll often work alone, occasionally with a partner crew member

2. Deliver Excellent Customer Service

• First impression: Arrive on time, introduce yourself professionally
• Communication: Explain what you're doing, give progress updates
• Problem-solving: Handle missing parts, unclear instructions, customer changes gracefully
• Leave them happy: Walkthrough of finished product, answer questions

3. Document & Report

• Take before/after photos (via mobile app)
• Note any issues encountered (missing parts, damage, unusual requests)
• Customer sign-off via tablet (confirms completion, quality acceptance)
• Mark job complete in app - you get paid within 24 hours

Income Potential

CASUAL (Weekend Warrior)

2-3 jobs/week = $50-100/week = ~$200-400/month

PART-TIME (Weekday Weekend)

5-8 jobs/week = $150-300/week = ~$600-1,200/month

FULL-TIME FOCUSED (Multiple jobs daily)

10-15 jobs/week = $500-1,000/week = ~$2,000-4,000 /month

PRO ASSEMBLER (Optimize for speed & volume)

15-20 jobs/week = $700-1,200/week = ~$2,500-4,500 /month

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Must Have (Non-Negotiable)

Valid Driver's License

• Valid Texas ID or passport
• Clean driving record (we check)
• Must be able to drive to customer homes (within 25 miles of Austin metro)

Own Vehicle/Basic Tools

• Reliable car, truck, or van
• Must be able to fit basic tools
• Tool kit for assembly, parts kit

Physical Capability

• Able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly (furniture, boxes)
• Comfortable with: Kneeling, reaching, bending, standing for 2-3 hours
• No back/joint injuries that limit heavy lifting

Mechanical Aptitude

• Comfortable using hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers)
• Comfortable using power tools (drill, impact driver)
• Can read and follow written instructions precisely
• Problem-solver: "Instructions unclear? Let me find a solution"

Customer Service Skills

• Professional demeanor (you're in people's homes)
• Clear communicator
• Patient with customer questions
• Gracious when things go wrong

Reliability

• Show up on time (or cancel 4 hours in advance)

Payment & Rates

Q: How much will I actually make? A: Depends on you. Casual assemblers make $200-400/month, part-time folks $600-1,200/month, and full-time folks $1,600-2,400 /month. The more jobs you pick, the more you make.

Q: What if a job takes me longer than estimated? A: You still get the full fixed payment. That's the deal - if you're fast, you benefit. If a job truly can't be done in the estimated time, you let us know during it, and we can work with the customer on a revision or additional payment.

Q: When do I get paid? A: Direct deposit within 24 hours of job completion. Friday/Saturday jobs deposit Monday morning.

Q: Are there taxes I need to worry about? A: Yes, you're a contractor. We send you a 1099 at year-end. You're responsible for setting aside ~25-30% for taxes. Also track mileage and tool expenses for deductions.

Work & Schedule

Q: Can I refuse a job? A: Absolutely. You see the job, you decide if you want it. No pressure.

Q: What if I'm sick and can't make a job? A: Cancel as soon as possible (4 hours before). Multiple no-shows will get you suspended from the platform.

Q: Can I work for competitors? A: You're a contractor, so technically yes. But if we find out you're deliberately poaching our customers or taking our jobs while working for a competitor, we'll remove you from the platform.

Q: How many jobs can I do per day? A: As many as you want if you can handle them. Most jobs are 1-3 hours, so 2-3 jobs/day is reasonable. Some guys do 4-5 jobs.

Q: What if the customer isn't home? A: You let us know immediately. We reach out to customer, reschedule. You don't get paid for that no-show, but it's not your fault.

Tools & Equipment

Q: Do I need my own tools? A: Yes, You have a personal toolkit of essentials (hammer, screwdrivers, level, adjustable wrench, cordless drill).

Q: Do I need a truck? A: No, a car is fine. You just need space for your toolbox and parts kit.

Q: What if a tool breaks? A: If it's company equipment, we replace it. If it's your personal tool, that's on you (tax deductible).

Future Opportunities

Q: Can this turn into a full-time job? A: Yes! If you're great - 4.8 star rating, consistent, reliable - we'll offer you a W2 Full-Time position.

Q: What if I want to eventually start my own assembly business? A: Understood. This could be a stepping stone for you. Just be transparent with us - we're not trying to trap you. If you become a competitor, we ask that you handle it professionally.

Q: Could I become a crew lead / supervisor? A: Absolutely. If you're excelling, there's room to grow. We'll need people to help train new contractors, manage crews, and run operations.
