This position reports to the Systems Engineering Section inside of the Advanced Development Programs business unit and is responsible for developing a network architecture and hardware design for one of our Space Mobility Programs. Leveraging your familiarity with commercial networking equipment and standards, your proficiency in system level network engineering and ability to manage project resources, you will lead the design of the networks critical for human space flight. We ask that you are proficient in handling the challenges, technologies, and solutions that address the space environment and have knowledge in developing network architectures. You are adept at working to a plan, adjusting it and prioritizing efforts while infusing and facilitating creativity and innovation. Ideally, you have direct experience developing, integrating, and delivering a deep space system such as a spacecraft, rover, or lander. Responsibilities: Conduct network architecture and design trade studies, assess performance, risk, safety and lead design reviews Lead the development of network requirements, perform network performance modeling and simulation, select network equipment, leverage COTS designs for custom space-worthy designs, and perform unit qualification testing Lead a multi-disciplinary team in architecting, designing, integrating, and testing of a variety of in-space network equipment. Serve as the technical focus for the network architecture and development to the system architecture team, mission operations team and flight operations Qualifications: B.S. degree or higher in an applicable field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, etc.) 7 years of experience in design, development, test, and operation of networking hardware Intimate familiarity with commercial layer 2 and 3 switching and routing hardware and software (including Ethernet and IP) In depth understanding of networking protocols including unicast/multicast traffic, IGMP, RSTP, PTP, VLAN, QoS, ERP. Hands-on experience and proficiency in networking hardware and software troubleshooting, including working with network test equipment Experience across the engineering life cycle Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (e.g., how to write a good requirement; the standard verification methods; functional decomposition; standard diagramming techniques; risk and opportunity management) Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum Desired (but not required): M.S. degree in applicable field (Electrical Engineering, computer engineering, computer science etc.) Experience with network simulations software (e.g. OPNET), network testing hardware (e.g. traffic generators/analyzers) and real time operating systems Experience with designing systems for aerospace environments, including thermal, radiation, and vibration In depth understanding of time-critical networking protocols, timing synchronization protocols and designing robust safety-critical networks Knowledge of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical requirements and analyses Experience in creating requirements for board-level design and engineering teams.
