Blue Mountain Humane Society is looking for a compassionate, organized, and community-minded Pet Support Coordinator to join our Public Services team.
As the Pet Support Coordinator, you'll help families navigate difficult decisions by providing resources that keep pets in their homes whenever possible while coordinating humane rehoming and owner-requested surrenders when needed. This role is critical to supporting our community, reducing unnecessary shelter intake, and ensuring the best outcomes for both people and animals.
Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
What You'll Do
Community Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for pet owners seeking rehoming assistance or owner-requested surrender.
- Conduct compassionate conversations to assess each family's situation and their pet's needs.
- Provide education, resources, and referrals that help families keep their pets whenever possible.
- Guide pet owners through available alternatives to surrender.
- Communicate professionally and empathetically during emotionally difficult situations.
Home-To-Home Program
- Manage Blue Mountain Humane Society's Home-To-Home program.
- Assist pet owners with creating honest, engaging online pet profiles.
- Review and approve listings for quality and policy compliance.
- Provide coaching and follow-up support to improve successful rehoming.
- Track program outcomes and maintain accurate records.
Intake Coordination
- Work closely with the Animal Care Manager, Pathway Planning Coordinator, Medical Director, and leadership team to assess shelter capacity.
- Help prioritize owner-requested surrenders based on urgency, available space, and resources.
- Maintain intake waitlists, appointments, and documentation.
- Balance animal welfare needs with shelter operations.
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate records of surrender requests and Home-To-Home activity.
- Monitor trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent communication and workflows.
- Represent Blue Mountain Humane Society with professionalism, compassion, and integrity.
QualificationsRequired
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (spoken and written).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of professionalism, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment.
- Ability to handle sensitive conversations with empathy while maintaining consistent policies.
- Proficient with computers and comfortable learning new software systems.
Preferred
- Experience in customer service, social services, animal welfare, case management, nonprofit organizations, or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse populations and community resources.
No college degree is required. We value relevant experience, transferable skills, and a passion for helping people and animals.
Pay: $18.50 per hour
