Position Summary
The Activities Director provides for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. The Activities Director plans, organizes, and directs or carries out a program of activities, which will provide entertainment, intercommunication, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent, and fulfill basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs for our residents. The Activities Director will be available to all residents as requested by the residents’ physicians, subject to their written restrictions and limitations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Promote BMHD’s mission, vision, and values through resident-centered programming and daily interactions.
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive activities program designed to support each resident’s physical, mental, psychosocial, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
- Develop and coordinate daily, weekly, and special event activities, including evenings and weekends as needed, based on resident interests, abilities, needs, and individualized care plans.
- Encourage resident participation and independence by offering group and one-on-one activities that provide socialization, creative expression, recreation, education, exercise, and spiritual support.
- Complete resident assessments, contribute to care planning, document participation and response to activities, and maintain required records in accordance with MDS and regulatory standards.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, therapy, social services, dietary, families, volunteers, and community partners to ensure meaningful and appropriate resident engagement.
- Prepare and distribute activity calendars, maintain supplies and equipment, assist with department budget needs, and support the safe and efficient operation of the activities program.
- Support resident council and family involvement, respond appropriately to resident concerns and preferences, and help foster a positive living environment.
- Provide direction, support, and orientation to activity staff and volunteers, and assist with scheduling and departmental coordination as assigned.

- Working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, DNV, CMS, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs), and continued readiness related to healthcare or hospital standards.
- Ability to prioritize, highly organized.
Education & Experience Requirements
Required:
- High School diploma or G.E.D
Preferred:
- Certified Nursing Assistant
Certification/Licensure Requirements
Required:
- Satisfactory completion of a training course for activity directors approved by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
- BLS certificate
- This person may also be either a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activity professional certified by a recognized accrediting body or a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.
Preferred:
- CNA License in good standing with Oregon State Board of Nursing (preferred)
