About This Role
As a Robotic Weld Technician, you will provide critical technical support for the welding department within our manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for troubleshooting robotic weld cells, including power supplies, weld programs, controllers, and tooling fixtures. The role requires pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and programming repairs, along with support for welding engineering initiatives through testing and experimentation. You will inspect welded joints to ensure they meet company standards, national code requirements, and customer specifications — with the final authority to determine weld quality.
Major Functions and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair all weld cell components, including robotic systems, PLCs, and sensors.
- Set and optimize weld parameters to ensure proper cell performance.
- Conduct experiments and evaluations to assist welding engineering in developing new or improved welding equipment, techniques, procedures, and practices.
- Inspect welded joints and conduct tests to verify compliance with specifications and standards.
- Provide technical training for new operators on welding and laser-scanning equipment, procedures, and processes.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Supervisors, Welding Engineers, Maintenance, Quality, and Production Operators to ensure equipment remains operational and production goals are met.
- Support production with proactive troubleshooting and corrective action to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Technical School diploma/degree preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience troubleshooting robotic weld cells.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience with Motoman and Fanuc robotic systems.
- Strong electrical and mechanical background.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting preferred.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of welding processes and inspection standards.
Working Environment
- Manufacturing environment with required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting (up to 30 pounds).
- Exposure to welding operations, robotics, and industrial machinery.
