Position Overview:
Blue Hills Ski Area is seeking a dedicated and physically capable Ski Race Attendant to assist in the preparation, setup, and management of ski races and events. As a Ski Race Attendant, you will play an integral role in supporting the smooth operation of race events, ensuring safety and efficiency for competitors, staff, and spectators. This role involves lifting, setting up equipment, and working closely with race organizers to create a top-tier race experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Race Setup and Breakdown: Assist with the physical setup of race courses, gates, fencing, timing equipment, and signage. Ensure that all race materials and equipment are properly installed, secured, and maintained throughout the event.
- Equipment Handling: Transport and manage heavy race equipment (e.g., race gates, timing devices, barriers, and signage). Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Course Maintenance: Monitor and maintain the race course, ensuring it is clear of obstacles and that course markers or barriers are correctly positioned and functioning.
- Safety & Monitoring: Work closely with race organizers and course officials to monitor the safety of athletes, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. Assist with crowd control and ensuring that spectators remain in designated areas.
- Assistance to Race Officials: Support race officials during events by providing tools, materials, and logistical assistance. Help with timing and ensuring smooth transitions between race heats.
- Pre-Race Preparations: Prepare the venue prior to races, including setting up the start and finish areas, ensuring snow conditions are ideal, and making sure all race equipment is in working order.
- Post-Race Clean-Up: After races conclude, assist in breaking down equipment, collecting race materials, and ensuring the area is properly cleaned and organized for the next event.
- Guest Interaction: Serve as a point of contact for racers, coaches, and spectators, offering assistance, directions, and race information when needed.
- Emergency Response: In case of an incident or emergency, assist race officials and first responders by helping manage the situation and ensuring the safety of participants.
Qualifications:
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds of equipment consistently throughout the workday. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (snow, rain, cold temperatures).
- Must be an intermediate Skiier
- Experience: Previous experience in event support, race coordination, or outdoor physical labor is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with race officials, participants, and fellow team members.
- Basic knowledge of ski racing equipment and terminology is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on safety and organization.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow specific instructions for race setup and safety procedures.
- A positive attitude and team-oriented mindset.
Work Environment:
This position is outdoors, and you will be required to work in cold, snowy, or wet conditions. Some tasks may involve standing for long periods, bending, and walking on uneven terrain. Flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required during race seasons.
