Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi preparation, and a commitment to excellence in both presentation and flavor. The Sushi Chef will be responsible for preparing sushi dishes, maintaining high food safety standards, and delivering an exceptional dining experience to our guests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve a wide variety of sushi including sashimi, nigiri, and specialty rolls.
- Ensure all sushi is prepared to the highest standards of quality, freshness, and presentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station and tools.
- Monitor inventory and order ingredients as needed, ensuring proper storage and handling.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and management to ensure high quality service.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper hygiene, food handling, and sanitation practices.
- Provide exceptional customer service by engaging with guests when appropriate and accommodating special requests.
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff or sushi apprentices if applicable.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or similar role in a high-volume preferred.
- Deep knowledge of sushi types, ingredients, preparation techniques, and Japanese culinary traditions.
- Knife skills and fish filleting expertise are essential.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Food safety certification is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Culinary degree or formal training in Japanese cuisine.
- Experience with Japanese-style service is a strong advantage.
- Understanding of dietary restrictions and food allergies.
