Rotational Apprentice - Actuarial Services
As a Rotational Apprentice - Actuarial Services with the BCBSWY Actuarial Team, you will play an essential role in learning and assisting with multiple functions across multiple departments. You will participate in a rotational program designed to build a broad understanding of our business and complete rotations in small group underwriting, large group underwriting, finance, audit/enterprise risk management, and actuarial, gaining exposure to both technical and business-focused work while supporting real-world projects in each department.
The core responsibilities for this role include: Evaluating the risk of insuring employer groups and other group segments using claims experience, demographics, industry, contribution strategy, and benefit design; Applying manual rating, experience rating, and credibility concepts in coordination with actuarial guidelines and corporate underwriting standards; Calculating renewal rates and developing new business quotes using standard rating tools, underwriting models, and actuarial inputs; Partnering with actuarial staff on complex analyses, including large-case experience reviews, trend and fee assumptions, and pooling.
In this role, you will gain knowledge, skills, and experience as you interact with highly qualified team members, and then have the opportunity to apply this mixture to improving products and processes.
To be successful in this role, you'll need to have an excellent mathematical background with a strong knowledge of statistical principles; the ability to analyze data using spreadsheets, databases and other software tools; be detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities; be goal oriented; and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field is required for this role. Preference will be given to applicants with professional designations (e.g. SOA actuarial exams).
