Metal Hand

Description

As a Metal Hand in the oil and gas and commercial sectors, you will play a vital role in ensuring the durability and weatherproofing of insulated industrial systems. Your primary responsibility will be to fabricate, form, and install protective metal jacketing and cladding over insulation on pipes, tanks, ductwork, and equipment to guard against weather intrusion, physical damage, and corrosion. 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Measure, layout, cut, form, and install metal jacketing and cladding (aluminum, stainless steel, or galvanized) over insulated pipes, vessels, ductwork, and equipment, adhering to industry standards and specifications. 
• Fabricate fittings, elbows, tees, valve covers, and end caps from sheet metal to fit irregular or complex shapes and equipment. 
• Secure jacketing using bands, screws, rivets, and sealants per specifications, ensuring proper weatherproofing and a finished appearance. 
• Inspect existing metal jacketing for damage, corrosion, or weather intrusion and perform necessary repairs or replacements. 
• Follow all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and your colleagues. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. 
• Select the correct metal type and gauge based on temperature, environment, and application requirements. 
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any safety incidents. 
• Work closely with insulators, engineers, construction teams, and other trades to ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

COMPETENCIES 

• Understanding of sheet metal fabrication and jacketing techniques, materials, and applicable safety regulations 
• Meticulous approach to identifying issues and developing effective solutions 
• Working in challenging environments, including extreme temperatures and at heights 
• Clear verbal and written skills; collaborates effectively with colleagues and supervisors 
• Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools (including shears, brakes, and snips), and ladders 
• Ability to interpret reports, diagrams, and manuals accurately 
• Climb ladders, scaffolds, or poles 
• Bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl 
• Lift, push, pull, and routinely move at least 50 lbs 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS 

• High school diploma or equivalent (required) 
• Relevant technical certification or vocational training in sheet metal fabrication or metal jacketing (preferred) 
• Proven hands-on experience as a metal hand or sheet metal mechanic, ideally within the oil & gas industry 
• Any formal technical certification or vocational credential in sheet metal work or a related field (if held)
