Position Overview
Blossoms is seeking a CAD Designer & Procurement Manager to lead technical drawing production and procurement strategy for custom event installations, scenic builds, furniture, and large-scale décor elements. This is a full-time on-site role located in Murrells Inlet, SC, and will involve periodic travel (<20%).
This position owns the accuracy, efficiency, and cost control of all build documentation and material sourcing, serving as a key decision-maker between creative design, fabrication, and operations.
This position is ideal for a highly experienced professional who can anticipate production challenges, guide teams through complex builds, and proactively protect timelines and budgets.
Responsibilities
Senior CAD Leadership & Technical Oversight
- Lead the creation and review of build-ready CAD drawings for complex custom installations, scenic environments, structures, flooring, backdrops, walls, arches, and furniture
Procurement Strategy & Cost Ownership
- Own procurement strategy for all custom builds, including material selection, sourcing decisions, and vendor relationships
- Develop detailed material takeoffs from CAD drawings and oversee purchasing execution
- Evaluate vendor quotes, negotiate pricing where appropriate, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or design intent
- Track lead times, delivery schedules, and supply risks; proactively resolve sourcing issues
- Maintain preferred vendor lists and historical pricing data
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as a senior technical partner to Creative, Production, and Operations leadership
- Identify and communicate fabrication risks, budget impacts, and schedule concerns early in the project lifecycle
- Provide guidance and technical direction to junior CAD team members or external drafting resources (if applicable)
- Support fabrication and installation teams with technical clarification during builds and onsite execution
Quality Control, Risk Mitigation & Efficiency
- Ensure all drawings and procurement decisions align with approved budgets and production timelines
- Anticipate fabrication and installation challenges before they occur and adjust designs accordingly
- Reduce errors, rework, and material waste through strong documentation and planning
- Recommend alternative materials or construction approaches when beneficial
Systems, Documentation & Process Improvement
- Own and continuously improve CAD standards, naming conventions, documentation workflows, and procurement processes
- Ensure organized, accessible records for drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and vendor communications
- Contribute to long-term process improvements that increase scalability and efficiency across the production team
- Translate creative direction and renderings into precise technical documentation, ensuring feasibility, safety, and installation efficiency
- Establish drawing standards, best practices, and quality controls across all projects
- Review and approve drawings prior to fabrication and installation
- Manage drawing revisions, change tracking, and version control across multiple concurrent projects
Experience
Required
- 5 - 7 years of experience in CAD drafting and procurement within event production, scenic fabrication, exhibits, theater, or custom fabrication. 7 years of experience with CAD drafting in another industry, such as complex architecture or engineering environments, may be considered.
- Expert proficiency in AutoCAD or Vectorworks (required); additional 3D or visualization software experience a plus
- Deep understanding of materials, fabrication techniques, and construction methods
- Proven experience owning material takeoffs, purchasing, and vendor coordination for complex builds
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to guide teams and make high-impact decisions
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in high-pressure environments, and multitask across drafting projects and procurement activities simultaneously
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors while maintaining transparency throughout project phases
Preferred
- Experience leading or mentoring CAD/drafting team members
- Background in live events, weddings, experiential marketing, or large-scale installations
- Familiarity with temporary structures, load considerations, and event safety standards
- Experience coordinating logistics, freight, and installation sequencing
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based work and collaboration with fabrication and warehouse teams
- Occasional onsite presence during installs or load-ins for complex projects
- Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring independent judgment and accountability
