Your Role & Growth
As a substitute assistant teacher, you will be called in as needed for planned absences and sick coverage. While on site, you will:
- Support a consistent group of children in a carefully prepared Montessori environment
- Guide social, emotional, cognitive, and creative development
- Assist lead teachers with classroom flow and preparation
- Foster a warm, stable, and nurturing atmosphere
No Montessori certification? No problem. We welcome educators who are eager to learn and grow. Our AMS-certified team provides mentorship and ongoing professional development from day one.
As our school expands, substitute teachers are always the first considered for open full-time and part-time positions. This gives you the opportunity to explore the environment and discover the best fit for your strengths and interests.
Schedule Highlights
- Operating hours: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Serving children ages 18 months to 6 years
- Daily rhythm includes morning care, uninterrupted work cycles, group gatherings, outdoor play, nap or story time, enrichment classes, and after-care STEAM activities
Substitute positions are on-call with no guaranteed weekly hours. We are expanding classrooms this spring, and full-time opportunities may become available.

Ideal Candidate
We are seeking educators who:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education (preferred but not required)
- Have completed at least six ECE units or are willing to complete required coursework to meet California licensing requirements
- Are team-oriented, nurturing, and passionate about working with children
- Embrace Montessori philosophy and are eager to grow within it
- Value diversity, inclusion, and community
Key Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Physically and mentally capable of performing assigned duties
- Criminal record clearance prior to employment
- Completion of required trainings before first day:
- Childcare CPR & First Aid
- HEADS UP Training for School Professionals
- Mandated Reporter Training
- California Department of Pesticide Regulation Training
- Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior childcare experience preferred
