Job Overview

Bloomington Developmental Learning Center is seeking a dependable and organized Cook to prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks for approximately 100 children and adults in our commercial kitchen.

BDLC is a vegetarian child-care center. The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, age-appropriate vegetarian meals while safely accommodating children with documented food allergies and dietary restrictions.

This position also includes weekly menu planning, food ordering, inventory management, kitchen sanitation, and maintaining compliance with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirement

Responsibilities

• Plan weekly vegetarian menus that meet CACFP meal-pattern requirements.
• Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to the daily menu.
• Prepare nutritious and age-appropriate vegetarian meals.
• Safely accommodate documented food allergies and dietary restrictions.
• Follow established procedures to prevent allergen exposure and cross-contact.
• Monitor food and kitchen-supply inventory.
• Prepare food orders based on inventory and upcoming menu needs.
• Maintain required meal-production and CACFP records.
• Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and kitchen-cleaning procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked commercial kitchen.
• Coordinate with the dishwasher/kitchen assistant to support smooth kitchen operations.
• Communicate clearly with center leadership and classroom staff.
• Participate in required food-safety, CACFP, and child-care licensing training.
• Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of kitchen or food-service experience preferred.
• Experience preparing meals for groups or working in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
• Experience preparing vegetarian meals is helpful but not required.
• ServSafe Manager Certification or willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
• Ability and willingness to learn CACFP requirements.
• Ability to understand and consistently follow food-allergy and dietary-accommodation procedures.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and bend, kneel, reach, and perform other physical tasks required in a commercial kitchen.
• Ability to successfully complete all background checks and health requirements applicable to employees of a licensed child-care center.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 35.0 per week
