What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Aide: Student Specific 1:1 (2026-2027) position at Blocker Middle School?
Primary Purpose:
Provide 1:1 support for a special education student, as required by his/her Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Must be a high school graduate or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.?
Have satisfied one of the following requirements:?
Have three creditable years of experience as either an Educational Aide I or II; or?
Have 48 semester hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or
related subject areas; and?
Education Aide 2 or 3 Certification Required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with children with disabilities.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Knowledge of general office equipment
Experience:
Have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Assist the specified student according to their individual physical needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
- Assist the specified student with personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
- If applicable, assume responsibility for learning and adapting to the specified student’s special medical needs documented in their IEP as delegated by the school nurse.
- Implement IEP-required support for the specified student during all portions of the lesson as directed by the teacher.
- Assist in the preparation of the specified student’s IEP-required materials needed for the lesson (i.e., prepare accommodated materials for the student, etc.)
- Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of the specified student.
- Provide any information requested by the teacher or administrator for development of the specified student’s IEP.
- Pull the specified student out of the general education classroom only if required by their IEP.
- Assist in the collection of data on the specified student’s mastery of IEP goals and objectives using criteria developed by the special education teacher.
- Assist the teacher in the implementation of the classroom management system with the specified student, including reinforcing and re-teaching established classroom routines, as directed by the teacher.
- If applicable, assist in the implementation of the specified student’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
- Assist in the collection of data on the specified student’s mastery of behavior-related IEP goals and/or objectives using criteria developed by the special education teacher.
- Fade supports the specified student as appropriate.
- Document the fading of support per the specified student’s IEP, as directed by the special education teacher.
- Supervise or assist the specified student in hallways, play areas, etc. as required by their IEP.

2. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned and as required by the specified student’s IEP.
3. Perform other duties as assigned and as required by the specified student’s IEP.

Tools/Equipment Used: Wheelchair lift, ramp, personal computer, copier, audiovisual equipment, and other Assistive Technology required by the specified student’s IEP.

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
