Position Overview

Bloc Resources is seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer (Level 2) to support complex heavy industrial and power generation projects. This role provides advanced structural engineering expertise, field support, and technical leadership for large-scale infrastructure design and construction efforts.

The Structural Engineer Sr 2 will be responsible for developing and reviewing structural designs, performing engineering calculations, supporting field operations, and ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards. This position requires strong technical expertise in structural steel and concrete design within industrial or power plant environments.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical infrastructure projects while working in a flexible hybrid or remote environment depending on candidate location.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Design & Engineering

• Provide advanced structural engineering services for heavy industrial and power plant projects

• Prepare detailed structural designs, calculations, and technical documentation

• Develop and review structural steel and concrete designs, including connection details

• Produce and verify engineering drawings and supporting design documentation

• Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements

Field Support & Site Engineering

• Conduct site walkdowns and field assessments at active construction and industrial sites

• Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning activities

• Perform structural inspections and prepare detailed written engineering reports

• Support troubleshooting and resolution of field-related engineering issues

Project Planning & Coordination

• Provide input on project schedules, staffing needs, and resource planning

• Develop cost estimates and material takeoffs for structural scopes of work

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, construction, and operations

• Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with competing priorities

Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance

• Review and check structural calculations, drawings, and engineering deliverables

• Ensure adherence to QA/QC standards and engineering best practices

• Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and junior staff

• Support continuous improvement of design processes and deliverable quality

Compliance & Standards

• Ensure compliance with structural codes, industry standards, and OSHA regulations

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of engineering regulations and safety requirements

• Ensure designs meet regulatory, client, and project-specific requirements

Problem Solving & Decision Making

• Apply advanced engineering judgment to solve complex structural challenges

• Evaluate design alternatives and recommend optimal solutions

• Make independent technical decisions with minimal supervision

Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration

• Collaborate effectively with plant personnel, design engineers, and vendors

• Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Build strong working relationships across engineering and construction teams

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (required)

• Master’s degree in Engineering (preferred) OR equivalent experience

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or strongly preferred

• 20 years of experience in heavy industrial or power plant structural engineering

Required Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of structural steel and concrete design principles

• Strong experience in structural steel connection design

• Ability to manage multiple large-scale, multi-discipline projects simultaneously

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Strong organizational and project coordination skills

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency with STAAD Pro and other structural analysis tools

• Strong understanding of structural codes, standards, and engineering methodologies

• Extensive knowledge of heavy industrial structures and components

• Strong understanding of OSHA safety regulations

• Experience with engineering design software and technical modeling tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience in power plant or heavy industrial facility design

• Prior experience leading structural design efforts on major capital projects

• Experience performing detailed structural inspections and reporting

• Strong background in construction coordination and field engineering support

Work Environment

• Hybrid work arrangement:

• Monday–Thursday in office

• Friday remote

• Fully remote candidates will also be considered

• Occasional site visits may be required for local candidates

• Combination of office, remote, and field-based engineering work

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform site walkdowns and field inspections in industrial environments
