SAP MM/SD Lead – Supply Chain Process Owner (Contract)

Location: Chicagoland Area

Schedule: M–F business hours, hybrid/onsite as needed based on project phases

Status: Contract Employee

Term: 12-18 month Contract 

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced SAP MM/SD Lead & Supply Chain Process Owner to drive and optimize Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Order-to-Cash (O2C) processes within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

In this critical contract role, you will own the SAP Materials Management (MM) and Sales & Distribution (SD) domains, ensuring the system accurately supports how goods are procured, managed, and delivered to customers. Given the high transaction volume and sensitivity of supply chain operations, this role is pivotal in maintaining operational continuity, system integrity, and cross-functional alignment.

You’ll partner closely with Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, and external partners to ensure SAP supports real-world execution.

Key Job Responsibilities

Materials Management (MM) – Procure-to-Pay

• Own SAP MM configuration, including purchasing (POs, contracts, scheduling agreements), inventory management, and invoice verification

• Govern material master data (material types, valuation classes, MRP parameters, purchasing info records)

• Manage and optimize MRP configuration in partnership with planning and production teams

• Oversee vendor master data governance to ensure data accuracy, compliance, and payment controls

• Coordinate closely with Finance on Accounts Payable processes, including 3-way match, GR/IR, and payment terms

Sales & Distribution (SD) – Order-to-Cash

• Own SAP SD configuration, including order management, pricing (condition technique), shipping, delivery, and billing

• Govern customer master data (account groups, partner functions, credit management, payment terms)

• Manage output processes (order confirmations, delivery notes, invoices), including EDI and electronic communications

• Lead credit management configuration, including credit checks, limits, and risk categorization

• Partner with Finance on billing integration, revenue recognition, and AR processes

Integration & Systems Collaboration

• Coordinate integrations with EDI partners, 3PLs, and carriers

• Support and validate SAP output management and external data exchanges

• Evaluate the impact of system changes on customer-facing workflows and supply chain execution

Testing & Change Management

• Review SAP updates/releases and assess impact on MM and SD processes

• Design and execute UAT scenarios covering end-to-end supply chain execution

• Lead integration testing across EDI, logistics partners, and external systems

• Communicate system changes and impacts to stakeholders across the business

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and evaluate new S/4HANA capabilities (e.g., aATP, Ariba, TM, Fiori)

• Manage and prioritize enhancement backlog based on business value

• Serve as escalation point for SAP supply chain issues, ensuring resolution and stability

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or related field

• 8–12 years of combined supply chain operations and SAP MM/SD experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on SAP functional configuration

• Experience leading at least one full SAP implementation as MM or SD Lead

• Industry experience in manufacturing, distribution, consumer goods, or food & beverage preferred

Skills & Expertise

• Deep SAP MM expertise: purchasing, inventory management, invoice verification, MRP

• Deep SAP SD expertise: order management, pricing, shipping, billing

• Strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain flows (P2P and O2C)

• Experience with EDI integrations (ORDERS, DESADV, INVOIC) and SAP output management

• Familiarity with S/4HANA, including Material Ledger and Business Partner model

• Experience with WM, EWM, SAP Ariba, or SAP TM is a plus

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
