About Blinds and Borders

Blinds and Borders is a residential and commercial window treatment company serving the Huntsville area. We have been around since 1997 and are now in year 2 under new ownership.

We are a small team with big standards. Our goal is to become the predominant window treatment company in the Huntsville area within the next 3 years.

We are growing fast, and our current field team is operating near capacity. We need another person who can learn our way of working, serve clients with excellence, and grow into a long-term role on our team.

This is not just an installation job. We are a service company that happens to serve through custom window treatments. The right person will care about the client experience as much as the finished product.

About the Role

We are hiring an Installer — Technician Track to help with client installations and grow into a reliable, independent field role.

At first, you will learn our products, tools, installation standards, client communication style, and field process. Over time, the goal is for you to handle installation appointments independently at the Blinds and Borders standard.

This role exists so we can serve clients faster, keep quality high, and free up our Lead Technician to focus on sales, complex jobs, training, and business growth.

For the right person, this role has a clear career path from Installer to Technician, with the possibility of moving into sales in the future.

What You’ll Own

You will be responsible for helping create an excellent client experience from start to finish.

That means:

  • Learning Blinds and Borders’ products, process, and installation standards
  • Assisting with and eventually running client installations
  • Communicating clearly with clients before, during, and after appointments
  • Keeping job sites clean, organized, and professional
  • Protecting the client’s home or business while working
  • Representing Blinds and Borders with warmth, professionalism, and care
  • Taking ownership when something needs to be done
  • Asking good questions and learning quickly
  • Helping the team wherever needed

What Success Looks Like

In Your First 90 Days

You have learned our main product offerings, become helpful on installations and sales calls, and can handle most installation appointments independently.

Clients experience you as professional, respectful, and helpful. The team experiences you as eager, teachable, and dependable.

By 6 Months

You are a fully reliable installer who can handle installations with excellence. You communicate well, keep your work clean, and do not need the Lead Technician at every job.

At this point, if you are interested and ready, you may begin training toward additional Technician responsibilities, which includes a sales path.

By 12 Months

You are fully competent to run installations from initial client communication through post-install follow-up.

If the sales track is the right fit, you may be trained and able to take on independent sales calls. You have grown into someone the company can trust with clients, installs, and more responsibility.

What We’re Looking For

No prior window treatment experience is required.

We care more about character, coachability, communication, and ownership than prior industry experience.

You may be a strong fit if you are:

  • Highly teachable and motivated to learn
  • Someone who takes extreme ownership and does not make excuses
  • Genuinely service-minded
  • Clear and professional in written and verbal communication
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working independently once trained
  • Also energized by being part of a team
  • Motivated to improve and grow
  • Calm, respectful, and professional around clients
Requirements

You must have:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work on-site in Huntsville and surrounding areas
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background screen
  • Ability to learn how to use a tape measure and basic hand tools
  • Ability to lift at least 55 pounds
  • Comfort climbing ladders up to 30 feet
  • Willingness to communicate clearly with clients and the team
  • Willingness to learn the Blinds and Borders way of doing things
Nice to Have, But Not Required

These are helpful, but not required:

  • Prior customer service experience
  • Prior job experience
  • Prior hands-on work with tools
  • Prior installation, trades, construction, or home service experience
  • Experience in athletics, academics, military, or another high-discipline environment
  • Interest in growing into sales over time
This Role Is Not a Fit If You

This role is probably not right for you if:

  • You blame others when things go wrong
  • You resist feedback or correction
  • You have a “know-it-all” attitude
  • You are looking to permanently stay part-time
  • You do not care deeply about the client experience
  • You only want to be told exactly what to do every minute
  • You communicate poorly or inconsistently
  • You do not want to grow
  • You do not care about details and “good enough” is your standard.
Compensation and Growth Path

Starting pay is $15–$17/hour, depending on prior skill and readiness.

There is a clear path to $22–$25/hour within 6 months for someone who demonstrates reliability, install quality, strong communication, ownership, and independence.

There is also an opportunity to grow from Installer into Technician. For the right person, there may be a future path into sales, which can include salary and revenue-based bonuses.

Benefits
  • Health & Dental Insurance is available.
  • 15 days PTO (for full-time)
  • 401(k) (coming later this year)
  • Eligible for bonuses
